Interstate Hwy. you have driven

The other day I was thinking about the Interstate system. I realized that I have

driven several of them from one end to the other. Mind you, not a one time, but over

the course 40 years. I have completed I-10, form Fla. to Calif. I-55 from La. to Ill.

I-59, from LA to Tenn. and I-12 which is an 85 mile by pass of New Orleans. I have

completed most of I-95 but ever expect to finish it. I never started out to do this, it

just happened.

Anyone else??

i prefer the state roads.
have done major chunks of route 20 between oregon and boston, and almost all of route 11 between louisiana and canada. also california hwy 1 along the coast. an awful lot of traffic lights and 30 mph limits.
you do get to see more on the state roads though.

I have driven on a lot if them, but I believe I35 is the only one I have seen both ends of. Duluth MN and Texas.

I agree that the State and US highways offer lots more to see. I do prefer the "back roads".

It's hard to beat the tail of the dragon or highway 7 in Ark. and others like them. When I made

the I-10 trips I was

pulling a trailer. I wish I could have made all these trips in a Porsche.

We enjoyed Ark. Highway 7 , among other Ark. roads in our old 73E.

Just have to watch out for the logging trucks.

I've been at both ends of US 41, but not much of the in-between.

I have driven all of I-355, I-155, and a few other bypasses.

Nver completed one. Have done I-10 from Jacksonville to San Antonio and that was far enough.

Did that trip in a 77 CJ-5 (Golden Eagle) with a poorly done lift kit and only a bikini top. Yes, it rained all the way through Louisianna and I was hating life. Every expansion joint sent the Jeep violently one way or the other. Had to stop in Slidel due to an overdose... Diet coke and several No-Doze resulting in severe gastrointestinal dysfunction. 24 hours in a $20 a night motel and a couple gallons of gator-aid later I was good to go. Spent most of that time sitting on the throne with a plastic trash can in my hands, fluid was coming out of both ends faster than I could replace it.

Did the same trip a few years later in a 1990 Miata with a buddy. I avoided the no-doze but stopped at the same motel just for fun. It was still only $20 a night. Slidel remains the carney capitol of the world. Getting of the interstate we drove past at least 100 mobile homes with various carnival rides sitting in the front yards. The same barefoot and toothless individuals occupied the 7-11 where I purchased the gator-aid years before...

Probably about 80% of the entire system...some sections of the Interstate are really beautiful. There are stretches of I-70 between Salt Lake and Denver (especially near Moab and Arches) that at the right time of day are spectacular, as good as it gets.

While I prefer off Interstate travel, there are some sections of the country where getting on the wide concrete is the only sane approach...

Only one I've done start to finish has been US-1 - Key West all the way up.

It took me a second to realize that you were talking about the top on the Jeep. At first I was picturing a grown man wearing only the top of bikini. I'm so glad I had that one wrong.

Thanks Legion... This was back in the days of don't ask don't tell so I couldn't admit to having worn a bikini top even if I did. Leave it to a Marine to pick on the Army guy.

I spent a few years in OTR trucks, and have been on a lot of the interstates. Even with the commercial driving, I have only been end-to-end on a handful. And if it were not for the commercial driving, I could only claim 1 of these.

I-10
I-40
I-20
I-85

InterS 10 and 20 one end to the other. 1 and 101 to Port Angeles and back down the 5. CA 395 is a nice trip. Really the only other N/S CA hiway. I was surprised to see it goes all the way to Spokane and then into CN.

I would say that I have driven most of I-77 and I-79.

Ever wonder why Hawaii has interstates?

Small world.....I did Ark Hwy 23 (Pig Trail) and Hwy 7 earlier this week on a motorcycle.....With over 700,000 motorcycle miles, I'd have to rate these roads as in the top 3 or 4 in my life...No traffic, no deer, no LEO's and polite drivers just made it all the better......

As far as Interstate one end to the other, I-5 Mexico to Canada many times. Once was the 1,280 miles from Mexico to Seattle in one day on a motorycle......Longest day ever for me...
