building my own pc
hi all
Im building a new pc for the first time. I am trying to do so using mostly new parts , but was trying to use my old video card for now. Problem is , it wont plug in! The cards contacts are broken into two sections seperated by a gap so you can only install the card one way. well, if I d install it the right way, the plugfor the monitor is on the inside of the computer! In other words, it is as if they motherboard has its agp slot backwards! My old card is agp, and the slot on this new board is agp. Did they change the slots? Or perhaps I am missing somthing silly here...looking at wires and squinting too long! thanks for any help |
Pics of the card??

its a 3dfx voodoo 3 3000 agp
I just looked on my old pc and its definately not a pci card. The agp slot is the same, onlt rotated 180 degrees!?! WTF? |
Hello
There are different AGP slots: AGP AGP 2x AGP 4x However they are upwards compatible even downwards should work ( but newer 4x cards will then see no power. I would guess the motherboard is the problem. Grüsse |
The card simply wouldnt work in the new board! I purchased a new card and it fit no problems whatsoever.
Anyways FWIW, I built the pc and installed windows in about 2.5 hours. PC's are very easy to build these days. Much simpler than working on my 911! |
So whatever became of your old card? Can you post a pic so we can see it? You can't just leave us hanging like this!!! :)

... I forgot to update this thread!!
I traded my old system to my sister for a dishwasher. My nepfew was extremely happy to get the 3d card instead of the old s3 4MB card that I was to include. Now he can play games...I mean do his homework. :) The card would not fit in the AGP slot on my new board. They changed the slot. I could not believe it . Perhaps it is something to do with 2X or 4X agp. I figured most PC's to be backward compatible at least to this degree. The vid card was only 2.5 yrs old  |
Here is the ati 7500 aiw radeon that fit : http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...r7500board.jpg
here is the v3 3000 agp that did not fit. See the differences? http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploads/v33000agp.jpg |
