How do they look themselves in a mirror?
Was reading a story on another forum last night about a group of guys that raped and beat a 16yo girl and called her father on her phone and described what they were doing to her as they were doing it.
This morning on the radio a guy was arrested here in NJ for raping a 15 month old boy and and showing it on webcam while he was doing it. Not to start bashing lawyers, but how on this earth can any decent, moral human being possibly stand up and fight for animals like this?? I just cant wrap my mind around the possiblity of doing that for any amount of money in the world. Never ever. I couldnt live with myself. I'm not talking about defending someone where there is lack of evidence or possibility of inocence. I'm talking clear cut without a doubt, guilt. Again not bashing lawyers, just cant understand how anyone can do it. |
Sad world we live in
|
Have you heard the most recent Serena Williams comments? She blames the victim! 16 YO as well. Yep, it's the 16 year olds fault.
Serena, just stick to tennis and threatening the linesmen or whatever they are called. http://www.sportingnews.com/sport/story/2013-06-18/serena-williams-rape-steubenville-comments-rolling-stone?icid=maing-grid7%7Cmain5%7Cdl12%7Csec1_lnk1%26pLid%3D331786 |
If there's no question as to guilt, the defense lawyer will look to minimize the sentence. Most (all?) will say they're providing a legally-required service. They might also argue that if the accused were to defend himself there are any number of technicalities which could drag the case on, open the door for appeals, etc. by providing competent defense it gets the job done more efficiently.
|
it's a solid black line. the defense lawyers are simply there to make sure our crime fighting folks are doing it correctly.
sucks they have to protect EVERYONE..even the obviously guilty ones. but personally, i'm glad they are there. i dont expect to ever need a criminal defense attorney, but i am glad they are there doing the thing they do. |

“… she shouldn’t have put herself in that position, unless they slipped her something, then that’s different.” “I’m not blaming the girl, but if you’re a 16-year-old and you’re drunk like that, your parents should teach you: Don’t take drinks from other people.” I would tell my kids the same thing. Telling someone to be aware and to protect themselves is not blaming the victim. Situational awareness is a good thing. |

You guys are missing the point of my post . I'm fully aware of a lawyer's job .
My point is, I just can't fathom how anyone can do it with a clear conscience and feel good about themselves. |

Every criminal defense lawyer is just doing a job. Have you ever had to rescue some drunk driving scum bag that just killed family in a drunk driving crash? |

He 'lives' with himself knowing that he is protecting the constitution. If we don't protect the rights, and follow due process, of the most evil, disgusting, vile people, then they start to erode for all of us. That whole 'presumed innocent' is really important in this country. It forces the government to follow the constitution for everyone. Try living in a country where you are presumed guilty until proven innocent. |
Court appointed attorney. I'm sure they don't want the job.
Public executions for guys like that (I really wish we could bring these back for certain cases). Sorry to PARF this up. |
Emergency responder can't pick and chose his clients . An attorney can ... I understand about a court appointed one .

given what folks are getting away with these days..
capping or crushing folks like this within 48 hrs.. should be on the top of that list.. won't insult animals by calling them that.. and they left the human race when they did what they did.. so.. let's get another cashier over here.. as this guy needs to check out.. bang.. next ... Rika |
Folks,
Our original poster is asking: How can the perpetrator look at themselves in a mirror? What kind of sick twisted bastage can contemplate not only harming another human being, but video it? There's gotta be something wrong with the wiring somewhere inside the head of someone who will do such a thing. Indeed a sad world Les |

i'm reading it differently. i think Vin is talking about defense attorneys. no? |
Vash would be correct...

Sorry, my mistake.
The whole thing turns my stomach. Best Les |

I can understand the role of the public defender but I couldn't do it. I also could not be in law enforcment. I am genreally easy going but some thnigs set me off and two of the biggest are rape and driving drunk. |

My neighbor is a criminal defense attorney. He feels this way. If the defendant doesn't get a fair trial, the justice system does not work so he is serving the Constitution. He is African-American and once defended a skin head charged with a hate crime. I'm sure he found it distasteful but gave it all he had so that the conviction would not be overturned on appeal. Believe me, he is not in it for the money. -e. |

There was some eventual justice. We killed that POS back. It is just a shame we could not kill him 168 times. |
The garbage man encounters an especially foul can.
Knowing it's his job, he holds his breath and empties as quickly as possible. The next week, he's a bit more accepting .. but he still holds his breath. |

lawyers defend known criminals, polluters, govt. agencies that clearly broke the law, banks driving people from their homes with trumped up robo-signings, etc.
the justice system requires it - the judge or jury decides |
Jesus H Christ, once again... I know how the whole justice system, fair trial, Constitution etc, etc.. , doing their job, blah, blah, blah, works. so I wish everyone would stop bringing that **** up.
Again... Would You be able to live with yourself, knowing you helped one of the above get off or reducing their charges. That is all I'm saying. |

Again...one of the main issues plaguing our country. "Entitlement" |
I see your point Vinny and on a human level I am sure the defense lawyers feel as repulsed about these monsters as any of us. I guess they go into pro mode much like many doctors, certainly in the surgical field, where the patient to some extent become of body that need a certain procedure that is performed by reflex after a while in the trade. Its a limping comparison of course, but sometimes you need to put a mental distance between your feeling mind and the object of work at hand.
Also, I guess at least the high profile cases will probably not hurt a career as far as ending up in the head lines. |

Vinny, I could not do that job. |

I heard a great line from Mark Geragos (sp?) who said everyone hates defense attys until they need one. :)
|
Vinny I'm with you. But I'm also the guy that couldn't live with myself for killing an animal to show I'm a man. Actually I don't need to.
