Tire Rack Installation Question
Bought two of these to carry my spare sets of tires in my car hauling trailer
The center to center distance between the uprights is 66 inches......... With studs being on 16 inch centers.........one would think they would have been 64 inches center to center and not 66 Can anyone give an explanation? Am looking to have 2 inches removed from the braces and welded back for 64 inches center to center http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1371749480.jpg |
No explanation.
However, have you considered just attaching a couple of horizontal bars or 2x4s to the wall and bolt to them. |

Have thought about that.................but prefer to mount into the trailer studs instead.
This 66" center to center is baffling |
Could it be intentional?
Meaning they want you to add something to ensure a solid mounting surface? |
Looks like this one.
Pit Pal Adjustable Tire Rack Description says "Built to be mounted on 16" centers, to a total length of 48" or 64". Net weight 38lbs. Available in 2 sizes. Add-on kits make the rack longer." Sure you measured right? Return what you have and buy these? |
I ended up drilling new holes towards the inner half of the uprights to get mine anchored in the trailer wall studs.
Remember those trailer studs are a flat U shape so verify positioning. |

Measured correctly................
When placed on trailer wall...........trailer studs on 16's..........the one upright is 2" off the nearest stud Have taken a tape measure to them..................66" on center No return..............purchased from a fellow on another site........still in box |
