rowing machines??

Tapping the PPOT brain trust for suggestions. I've gone from treadmill to eliptical machine and my arthritic feet still can't take it. I used a rowing machine for about a week (at a resort) and I could get a good workout without wrecking my feet. It was one of those with a tub of water for resistance. I liked it, but they cost $1200 or so and I'm looking for suggestions for a rowing machine that is good, but less costly. Anyone out there with experience with rowers??

At CrossFit (every CrossFit gym I've been to, actually) we use the Concept 2 rower. I haven't used anything else with any regularity, but I can tell you they are durable, pretty lightweight to move around, stable, and you can easily stand it up for storage. The display gives some useful info, too (distance, elapsed time, countdown workouts, etc.). I think the Model D is what we use, looks like it lists for $900. Good luck!

I bought an almost-new Concept 2 model D from a seller on CL about a year ago, paid just over 1/2 retail. Both my wife and I use it, and, as doublestuff says, the rower is very durable and stable. We are very happy with it.

Concept II on slides is the bomb, my club has two of them and three without slides, love the ones on slides.

I rowed in college and coached for 4 years after. Concept II is the only erg to get. CL has great deals on them. I like the model B the best, incredibly sturdy, and honest machine. It will brake your heart when used correctly. I'm sure the new ones are good too.

Thanks for the suggestions. I just snagged a 3 month old Concept 2 for $500. A new one would have been $945 with shipping.

Concept II, as well. I'm thinking about ordering one from Amazon ($900)...the one that sits taller.
An ex g/f was a personal trainer and it was her contention that the Con. II was the premier way to warm up the body for a resistant workout - also good for kicking yer ass!

Oops, didn't see your last post...nice steal!
