iTunes Assistance Pretty Please?

Does anyone else find the iTunes interface maddening as heck?

My computer crashed recently and I seemed to have lost all of my music that wasn't purchased from iTunes (that part is on the cloud).

I still have an iPod with all of my music on it, but I cannot seem to figure out how to get it back on iTunes so I can sync with my iPhone5.

Any ideas?

Speaking of the cloud---how the heck do I get my photostream back out? When I go to the dashboard I can see that my photos are in a file--but I have no idea how to get them back on my hard drive.

I now also have carbonite so hopefully I won't lose everything again the next time this POS Dell PC has to be wiped.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Senuti Free (Mac) - Download

Try this, its iTunes spelled backwards. Do another search using "senuti"

You should have offsite backup like Carbonite as well.

The one and only app I've paid for on my phone is Files - it allows me to xfer files back and forth via network from my linux box, and has a music player built in that does everything I ask the native app to do. Plays movies in mp4 format too, and can be used as storage for any document type.

I will still be moving to an Android phone if I can find one at upgrade time that is in my price range and easily runs a stock 'droid distribution. Of course, that is 18 months away....

Hugh's answer got me on the right track. I found Media Widget for windows and although it is not free it was well worth the $29. Upon downloading it I immediately added all the music from my remaining iPod into iTunes and then backed them up on my PC so that Carbonite would also back up.

This saved me the trouble of having to manually download every CD I own back onto iTunes. Again--well worth the $29 and it works perfectly.

I also already have another app called Tunesweeper and it eliminates duplicates on your iTunes files. A must-have in my opinion.

Thanks again, Hugh.

I gave up on the itunes monster 2 years ago and haven't looked back since.

I back up all of my music (mp3/mp4 format) on thumb drives.

It's great. Allows you to permanently delete duplicates or store them on a back-up file. Very good interface.

iTunes sucks donkey balls.

I have a Mac now, but run Windows 7 on it and use dedicated music software.

I have an 80gig iPod. Stuffed it full of my faves......iTunes changes the program every couple of months, just because. My back up is an external hard drive.

It indeed sucks Donkey Balls.

I hope to not have to use it for several years.

Yes---it's a PITA to lose these files. It's even more amazing to me that Apple hasn't rolled out an app to correct this themselves--they'd make more money even if it only cost $2.

The dashboard at least used to be kind of user-friendly, but not any more.
