BMW Roundel thinking of a used Mini Clubman

thinking of a used Mini Clubman

Any words of concern?

Its for my wife to use as a daily commuter, with enough room for groceries in the back and 2 kids (7 and 12).

She does not need the power of the "S" so I may just go for the Cooper.

Are they OK in the snow with a set of snow tires?

Any major repair concerns? She will put about 15,000 miles on it a year.

I had a student at VIR who had one, surprisingly great on the track, he was from NY, so he used it in snow and had nothing but positive things to about it (he also worked in a shop)
I say go for it.

Make sure it does not have the death rattle at start up. There is a TSB regarding the timing chain tensioner failing.

had a '10 that I just sold. In addition to the timing chain, the other issues were the high pressure fuel pump and the fact that the intake valves would get coated with carbon for some reason igniting the check engine light (twice) the second time making the car run on limp mode. They fixed it under warranty with a blast of walnut shells to break the stuff up. I ran Techron with every other fill up after that. Make sure that the timing chain was done with the latest fix, there are two with the first not fixing the issue, I had both. The fuel pump issue seems an easy fix. The carbon build up not so much as it is endemic to the motor design.

Sold it since I could not use the integrated bluetooth mic in the car. Everyone asked me what wind tunnel or toilet I was in because of the noise and asked me to use the phone without the bluetooth. Car was great for SF finding tight parking spots.

Interestingly I went to a '13 Touareg Diesel and I am getting the same mileage as in the Cooper.
