My Uncle Wrecks an XK 120

In the early 50's.

Great guy, spent a few weeks every summer with him in SF when I was a kid.

I am not exactly sure where the wreck took place. I think north bay. I'll ask my Dad.

I am on leave this week and catching up on scanning old pictures that we want to endure. I came across these and thought I'd share.

He lived. More pics later. Great stuff...not the wreck!

Looks like he may have been channeling James Dean, Paul.

Cool car - sorry it got smashed - but glad you have the pics and memories.

My brother and I were both born at the naval hospital on Mare Island, BTW. Was driven across the Golden Gate bridge days after birth. Something about the Bay area infects one's soul....

License plate is the 1956-62 style but cars in background seem to indicate closer to 1956. Good thing he had AAA!

Edit: I Googled Felix Sheet Metal and came up with a location in Hayward, CA. Also: Dewey Welding and Manufacturing, 950 San Leandro Blvd. which is also in/near Hayward. The billboard in the photo taken along the rural highway may say Hotel Galt, which could indicate the road from the east bay out to the Central Valley, where the town of Galt is located (near Stockton). Could be in the Livermore Valley by the looks of the surrounding hills.

Found it. 950 San Leandro Boulevard, San Leandro. Bridge over the creek still the same as when it was built, likely in the 1930s. Felix Sheet Metal building over at right at the end of the bridge, still there.

Looks like he was parked in front of that old café and may have stopped for a bite to eat? Note in the second photo at top that he was parked just this side of the bridge, which places the car in front of the eatery.

Excellent!

He was from Castro Valley...he worked at Lawrence Livermore Labs for years.

They lived on Heyer Ave...

That is the very definition of balled up! Glad he came out on top, still it's a shame to wreck such a beauty!

Thanks for the pix!
