Advice on Merc. E55 AMG/ 2000

Hello.
I may be purchasing an E55 AMG 2000 within the next day or two.
It's in Fantastic shape, with 82,000 miles.
They're asking $11,500 Can.
Your experiences..knowledge would help.

We have had one for the past couple of years. My wife drives it. Luckily, the previous owner was great about maintenance and kept every receipt. The car has been great. Changed the plugs and wires, air filter, oil changes etc. The window regulators are an issue. So far, we have replaced two. The PO changed some too. Not a difficult thing to do but an annoyance. The mass air flow sensors on this era Mercedes are always an issue. They can be cleaned with CRC mass air flow sensor cleaner. Eventually they need to be replaced. Just the way it is. I have not have to do anything to the MAF yet.

Also had to change the door switches. The alarm kept sounding. Easy fix. Took a few minutes. Rear brakes...straightforward.

I am sure you know the w210 E55 AMG is not supercharged like the w211. It still is surprisingly fast.

Here is a picture. The "sports grill" was replaced with the original.http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1372904873.jpg

they are supposed to be solid cars. Hopefully Speeder will chime in.

The 5.4L M113 engine in this E55 is Mercedes equivalent to the small block 350 Chevy. Super reliable and can rack up the miles in fast svelte mode without breaking the bank.

I like this model E55 alot and feel they have aged well, 349hp and a run to 60mph in 5 seconds flat is just plain great with the AC on and 4 adults in the car all for a smidge over $11K whats not to like.

Go for it.

I own the big brother to this E55 same engine just mine has the factory blower and it has been a joy to own (3+ years of ownership)

Regards - Yasin

LOL.:D

I went early this afternoon to look at it and test drive.
I am in love with this vehicle.
The Quality. The power train. The solidity of the vehicle is something I have not yet experienced.
Wow.
I want.
Unfortunately there is a sale pending on the vehicle. Who knows, might not work out?
There are others out there and I will educate myself on the E55-W210 and W211.
Talk about value for money.

It looks like a great deal. I have always had a soft spot for german sedans. I think the body style is showing a bit of age and has kind of a Toyota Avalon appearance, but I wouldn't rule out considering one. Get it lowered and adding some wider wheels is always a plus. On the neg side, wasn't this when Chrysler was involved with MB. I was surprised to find out one of the biggest problems with this car is rust??

"1995 to 2000 cars have had paint and rust problems, particularly around the numberplate area on the bootlid in the bottoms of doors and now developing in the front wings. This is well known in Germany. Daimler Chrysler has now admitted to another rust problem on all W210 E Class up to June 2001 build - apparently due to using stretched steel construction. Affects areas around door window seals and suspension mounting points.

Inspect the paint very carefully for signs of 'filoform' corrosion (corrosion starting in the metal under the paint). Also inspect for corrosion in the seams, behind the seals at the tops of the doors, and in the underbonnet seams. "

I'm sure every car has is dark secrets, as long as they remain in the dark.

So, the 2002 E55 would in theory be free of the corrosion issue found in the earlier W210s? I've always found these generations appealing for some reason, even though they are considered by many to be the Ford Taurus of the marque.
Nice video, Enzo...

My parents have a W210 (2001 E320) and it is a great driving car that feels very solid. It has no rust issues, but is a CA car that is always garaged, and less than 100kmiles.

I have a W211 E55 (2006) with around 56kmiles. The power is outstanding and it is quiet running down the freeway at whatever speed you are comfortable driving at. I’m not a huge fan of the air suspension, I think its too soft, and lets you feel the hefty weight of the car. The interior has a few creaks in the plasics, and the overall build quality doesn’t feel as solid as the older W210. But holy moly, it is fast. It will pass anything but a gas station.
