Boring question
 

I have a brand new propellar that I want to put on my boat. The problem I have is that the new prop is for a one inch shaft and my boat has a one and one eighth inch shaft.
The prop metal is nibral(?). Does anyone know if the opening can be bored to one and one eighth?

There has to be a way to machine it. That one inch hole was machined in there somehow.

I don't do this type of work but I am going to go out on a limb here and say that by the time you paid someone to bore out the hole and the splines to fit, and that is assuming that it would be bored and balanced again, you could probably just buy the right sized prop and it would be cheaper.

I have watched several of Keith Fenner's videos on YT. He does all kinds of prop repair and marine machining in New England. I too would have to say seeing what's involved you might look for the right prop.

But do call the local marine repair shop to see what kind of equipment they have. And think about shipping the thing if you find that there is someone that can do it.

Some shafts hold the prop on with a taper not splines. If tapered I would think it could be bored easily . I actually ha to deal with the recerse a few yrs ago for a sailboat prop. A tapered bushing was available

By the time you pay for set up for both boring and cutting a keyway or splines...

It probably cheaper to buy a prop that fits...

I would check with a prop shop in your area.
In a previous career I was a propulsion and test tech for a yacht manufacturer.
There was a prop shop that would do amazing things with props for us....
adjust pitch, diameter, small tweaks to blade shape, shaft bore sizes.
This was 15 years ago, I had no cost accountability(just get it done), so I'm no help there.
But, it doesn't cost anything to ask.

New props for my boat run 5-6 hundred dollars. I got this prop for 200. Maybe it will work, maybe it won't.

What are the prop dimensions. I have a Mercruiser prop off a boat I sold sitting in my garage.

It fits on my mastercraft boat. 14x18 with a 1 1/8 inch bore with a key.
