What's with my laptop running scripts and running slow?

What's with my laptop running scripts and running slow?

Just started happening and it's driving me crazy! How do I remove them and/or fix it?

My computer is also running so slow it reminds me of the days I had dial-up.
I don't know if it's my Virgin Mobil Broadband2Go or my computer running scripts and/or wind sprints.

Subscribed.

Just for reference, I'm getting a similar message and I use Firefox. Real intermittent but seems to happen more often when I have more than one tab open.

Websites now-a-days load in various tracking services via JavaScript. Many of these use their own code-base or APIs. Others use open-source APIs like JQuery. It is know that older versions of JQuery can be finicky and get stuck in 'infinite loops' when bad parameters or functions are called.

Best things to do:
1. Get rid of Internet Explorer. It is seriously just a browser to get you online to download a real standards-compliant browser like Chrome or Mozilla Firefox.

2. If you get Firefox, get the following plugins: NoScript & Ghostery.
- NoScript allows per-domain object blocking. That means no JavaScripts being loaded without you white-listing the site. This will speed up your browsing experience IMMENSELY.
- Ghostery disables calls to known tracking services and blocks other invasive elements. Services like AlexaRelated, Omniture (2o7.net), Google Analytics, Dataium, Bing, etc. These are used for marketing, re-marketing, cross-domain activity tracking and user-behavior tracking. These are services used to track down to specific-user trails and activity across the web.

3. If you get Chrome, get AdBlock Plus. Not sure what other privacy-minded plugins are available.

By reducing the number of active 'scripts' on a page - by blocking or disallowing scripts - will ultimately provide a good user-experience for browsing the web.

Sometimes it makes sense to reinstall Windows every so often like changing your Oil when these errors persist. You will notice your machine running much faster, no question. The browser picks up a lot of debris when surfin the web and I would recommend at least every 6-12 months. Of course this requires you being diligent about backups which you should be doing anyway. Cloud storage is very cheap (ie. Google Drive, Dropbox, etc) making it easy to back up large important files. You'll need at least an hour or 2 for the project and you need to be in front of the machine to click OK several times throughout the process.

Actually, this is what caused my problem. I just restored my laptop to like factory, and I've been fighting the script issues since. As mentioned, I downloaded Chrome and it's been working great since then...

I was getting the same thing. Even on government websites with no advertising.
The computer would lock up for 1/2 hour to an hour. WTF. Disconnect and do something else.
Firefox with only NoScript and Malwarebytes.

The typical errors were:
Script: resource:///components/nsPrompter.js:466
Script: chrome://bprivacy/content/bprivacyutils.js:20
Script: chrome://browser/content/sanitize.js:133
Script: resource://gre/modules/XPCOMUtils.jsm:357

Downloaded Ghostery. So far nary a hick-up. Thx Brando
