The end of an era. A car story.

I finally got to drive my 71 E-Type Jag this past weekend, only a couple of miles, have to get some plates now but after 12 years of ownership, we couldn't resist a spin around the block. It's been an on again - off again project and a large one for me. The car hadn't been driven for close to 25 years so it was a big day. Still a bit to do before any serious shake down runs but it marks the end of an era, my car is no longer a project. A new chapter has started with a driveable car. I'm a lucky guy.

Probably an optical illusion, but tell me those hanging items aren't above the most expensive part of the car(bonnet).

Fantastic looking car and nice work!

Yes its a 12 cyl., the 1129th car of 5183 LHD coupes made during the 4 year run. It has been a sad story for parts of it. When I got the car in 2001 the PO had painted it, he took off the wheels and bumpers, masked the glass but that was it, he never masked the louvers, the frame rails were in primer and he tried to paint that and the fire wall too, he painted the car and engine compartment with the engine in the car. It was sad when I got it, there was solid red stripes across the engine from painting the louvers, overspray everywhere - I mean everywhere, some places it was so thick that it was a solid red color, its taken a lot of work to get it looking like it does now but its a hobby so its been fun - most of the time. When its not fun and feels like work I would just leave it for a bit. I was looking for a project when I got it and like a lot of times it turned out to be bigger than I thought it would be but it was a local car, 38K miles, a ton of recent work prior to coming off the road with the PO, it was all there and zero rust - none. I saw it as a jewel in the rough, everyone else thought I was nuts and that it was junk, they all like it now, the old gal, I call her "Shoe" or "the Shoe" did clean up pretty nice.

The racing gear and Hockey gloves you mean? I hung that stuff up years ago, figured I get out when I was on top of things. It just hangs around to remind me of when I was the King, the older we get, the better we were kinda thing.

Count those plug wires, young man.

Superb, Finn. Make sure you've got some free-flow mufflers on it and have fun waking up the neighborhood.

2 Iconic cars

Wow a red 930(?) & a red E Type both in the same garage? Could be like two two mistresses under the same roof - whose turn is it today!!!

I had a red series 1 E Type in my late 20s (& it did wonders for my social life). It only had 265 bhp but it was wickedly fast; but more of a GT than a 'sports' car.
I presently have a red 911SC which is a no-frills sports cars which I love driving the long way home.

You are very fortunate to have both, and especially lucky to find an E Type without rust.

Will be interesting to see which car your wife/partner/SO prefers to go out in.

Good point. Could possibly have been a twin plug engine though.

This took my 15 years to restore as I funds were tight. Its also taken me two years (and another motor rebuild) to get her dialed in and truly reliable - a relative term when discussing British cars. Certainly worth the effort and you will really enjoy the satisfaction of bringing the Big Cat back to life. I've never driven a 12 so I'd be interested in hearing how she runs.

Another fantastic E Type restoration!!

Is that an early 1961 model - what number is it?
I had a 1962 FHC, made on 16 January 1962 number 860166. I sure miss that car.
I now have a 78 911 SC which I love as much as the Jag & will keep as long as I can drive.
