The Bronze Penguin--update, finished
OK, this is as the TABs says, folk art, but this is it so far, I poured the Penguin today at about noon, waited about 3/4 hour and broke it out, started cleaning it up. It still needs a lot of work. The others are a freehand Eagle and a Killer Whale I made plus whats called a Thunderbird, Alaskan type art. I carved the Penguin in Tiger Wood first, it's been here before, then made a mold in rubber, poured the wax, invested it and burned the wax out. Poured the Bronze today. a few more days and It will look ok, get cleaned up and get some patina on it. I have started another wax Penguin without the base, just standing on he feet and tail, it will get mounted on some white Marble.

I am just happy it is this far. and it's hollow and is 10" tall. |
I like the wood buck as much as I like the bronze penquin!!
Your talent and hard work are allowing you to build a really nice body of work! (This is great stuff, and thanks for sharing!) |

Wow! You got chops!!!
|
No offense, but I think the wood version is way prettier than bronze could ever be. :). Excellent work!

Or, maybe I could send the mold to India, get a bunch made and sell them at Pier One. That was a joke. |
Good point.... I didn't realize you were trying to make some cash doing this... ;)

Remember, we haven't seen the final bronze on the penquin! I'm sure BeyGon is gonna rattle our cage with the final work. Looking forward to seeing it!

Finished the Penguin today, this is it, not sure if I like it, really, but I will look at it for a few days and maybe put some more color on it. Weighs about 15 lbs. good for a door stop.

That penguin begs to be touched - I bet if you place it at the entrance to something (like your house) it will get a polished spot where folks rub it as they walk past!
Über-kuhl as usual. Wish I had your gifts (craft and patience!) |
The penguin is absolutely cool.
