Parked in the passing lane?

I dislike Left Lane Bandits as much as the next guy, but that guy was hardly "parked" in the fast lane. In those 50 or seconds, he passed at least 3 or 4 cars that were on his right, and he himself was passed by a total of zero cars.

At the speed he was traveling, if you expect him to go to the right lane, then pull to the left to pass, then go back to the right, etc. he would be swerving all over the road. He'd be changing lanes every 12 seconds.

Anyways, that video was funny. I've been on a sport bike forum since last fall, and a shockingly high number of riders are really dumb and do really dumb things. Nice guys, but not very smart. Resulting in lots of accidents, metal rod implants, and at least 3 dead forum participants in the 6 months I've been there.

But here's the thing: If there is a driver (or rider) in your rear view mirror, you pull over, as that person is going faster than you. Doesn't matter if you are on the street or on the track; it's just the way it is. Left lane bandits piss me off too, which is why I don't drive in the left lane unless to pass.

That being said, the motorcycle driver was an idiot. Hopefully he lived.

As long as he doesn't breed...

Down here folk refer to the passing lane as the 'fast lane' when its not. both lanes are subject to the same speed limit of 100kph but the rule states "keep left unless passing." (RHD's)

Now we're disparaging forum members?

I ride every day; you won't last long using tactics like that.

I think that's what happened. I don't see a brake light. Something seems to light up just under the tail of the seat, but then the bike gets closer and it's just yellow fiberglass. Guy in the car is a bad driver, guy on the bike is/was just dumb.

And sadly nothing shall be learned...amazing how people have survived. I guess the shear numbers help.

Look again, clearly he stood on the brake. No plate on the bike so what state/country?

Even in the US I don't think that would go against the driver. Not anymore after the rash of intentional rear ender causing brake checks to collect insurance 10 years ago.

Yup, brake lights just before impact. BTW, source site (LiveLeak.com - Motorcycle rider gets rammed by car he was harrasing) says this happened in Russia.

I am with Jake on this one.
Maybe because of our common training: Keep Right Except To Pass
The guy could have/should have pulled to the right lane when he cleared the first knot of traffic.
We cannot see how long the guy on the bike was sitting behind the car with the camera.
My rule is: If you have someone wanting to get by, Let them by. The sun does not shine out of your back passage. Share the road.
The car driver's behaviour contributed to this incident.
Having said that, the guy on the bike is a clear Darwin Award candidate.

Best
Les
