What about this car for a mid-forties guy..?

I really like a lot of things about this car: Rear wheel drive, base model 2.0 four Cyl, Turbo. Six speed manual trans, 275 lb ft of Torque at 2000 rpm. No sunroof, cloth sport seats, hydraulic steering (not electric assist), oil temp and boost gauges. Okay to run on regular gas if you choose (with a small ding in HP).
Ten year, 100,000 powertrain warranty.

The styling though.... Is it too adolescent? 2013 Hyundai Genesis Coupe Specs and Features - MSN Autos

I dunno...your choices are numerous for new car money. I'd let it roll around in the noggin for awhile before buying that.

I'd probably go for the Subaru take on that equation rather than the Hyundai.

If you put it to people on the Internet you'll get talked out of it. If you like it and you think you'd enjoy it then give it a try. Go take a test drive and see if it floats your boat.

I'll be driving my nine year old 325i for a while longer and maybe look into this next year, I still need to test drive one. I really like the fact that it's rear wheel drive and reasonably good mpg (considering 274 HP).

I'm okay with the styling, it's not bad. I'd like it to be a bit more conservative.

You can also look at the Scion, Subaru supplies the motors. You can hotrod the snot out of those things.

Some cars you buy based on specs and have a hella great time with them but take a bath when it's time to move on. This sounds like one of those. I'd put duct tape over all the Hyundai badges and drive it like I stole it, knowing that when I'm done it prolly won't be worth much.

Exactly.

If you like it buy. Plain and simple. You know what they say about opinions...

Looks like a lot of car for $24k. It's a bit boy-racer for me but I am mid 50s. Hyundai has really gone after build quality and their factories are some of the most advanced auto manufacturing plants in the world. If quality is anything like recent Samsung electronics and appliances it's a winner.

Go drive the car and report back.

If you click on the Hyundai link (or any link for that matter), the advertising will stalk you. This has been discussed and there is ad-killing add-ons you can download.

Fuel Economy(city/hwy) 16-21/25-30mpg.
(What century is this again? Also, the ad doesn't mention weight.)

Sorry I'm no help in picking out your next car. I'd suggest getting one that works best for your lifestyle and image.

It has received some very good reviews from the motor press in Europe. A nice driver focused car.

This is what I would buy... I love the Genesis... but I needed a commuter and had a lower budget so went with Elantra.

I'm on my third Hyundai and they are tough as nails... I have never had a problem selling off the old ones (I but a new one, drive it to 90K miles, sell, repeat) the brand is well known, been around for decades, and has a loyal following.

The car snobs will tease you...but at this point in your life do you really care what other people think about the car you drive?

I have a 2012 Genesis sedan. Had it about 11 months now. I love it. It does everything it's supposed to do and it does it well. My prior two daily drivers were BMWs... a 740iL and then an M-Roadster. I like my BMWs but with the 7, I got tired of things breaking every other week and with the roadster, I was afraid of the same with it running out of warranty.

The Lazy-H badge certainly doesn't have the prestige of the Roundel but that is not why I bought the car... and Hyundai/Kia has come a long way since they were the laughing stock of the auto industry.

I would by with confidence and enjoy. Don't expect positive reviews from a Porsche or BMW forum because you won't get it... If you need convincing from the internet, there are a couple of good Genesis Forums
