What is your favourite Van Halen song/video?

For me it has and always will be....."Jump".



Part of why this song and video are my favourite is where I was in life when it came out. Those were some wild times....

Sammy Haggar was an excellent replacement --- and IMHO neither DLR or SH were any better than each other. Just different...and both were fantastic.

I think DLR said the Jump video cost $600 to make and most of that was for beer.

I just played Hot For Teacher and Somebody Get Me a Doctor for a band audition last night.

You know Van Halen in certain regards is like Led Zeppelin.

VERY unique sound, lots of musical & song writing talent, put out a crap load of killer songs over the years....and one of those bands you REALLY appreciate when the speakers are turned UP!!!

Not to get off on another subject but when I hear people say the music nowadays is still as good as ever....and here we have VH's body of work......just to name one legendary rock band.....those people must be on crack street!

I like the earlier albums, but I'm that way about most artists. To me it was all downhill after 1984. At least 1984 gave us cars guys a car song. -J

House of Pain(1984)

As a drummer, Hot for Teacher was an incredible song to hear on the radio back then but for me there are better songs that showcase the talent of the entire band.

Light Up the Sky might be my favorite VH song. I got that album when it came out in the 3rd grade. At that time Dance the Night Away and Beautiful Girls were my favorites. But Light Up the Sky is just amazing. Of course, the next album is a scorcher too. If you're into overdriven vintage Marshalls, it doesn't get much better than the first four VH albums.
