Seriously iTunes?

Since I am a new music junkie, I often check for new music on iTunes. And this is what iTunes considers New & Noteworthy for me (I don’t know if it is targeted . . .) What a load of crap. I listened to at least one sample on each album.

There are some seriously bad recordings in this lot. (Dub Evolution for sure)
A bunch of bad imitations of things that have gone before & should be left to die peacefully.
A good songwriter who can’t sing. (Guy Clark)
A good songwriter who is almost interesting but not quite. (Lauren Aquilina)
And one possible good one but I hate her style. (Hiatus Kaiyote – good recording as well)

I am ashamed for the music industry & iTunes if this is the best that they can manage. I know it's not a big release time of year but is it any wonder sales are down?

There's good music out there, I read and listened to this today. I'm going more for a "stripped down" sound. 5 New Faces Of Folk, At The 2013 Newport Folk Festival : NPR

....“In somewhat of a surprise from Tuesday’s quarterly conference call, it was announced that iTunes Software and Services generated $3.9 billion, which represents a whopping 25 percent increase compared to the year-ago period,” AppleInsider reports.
Apple CFO Peter Oppenheimer “said some 1 billion TV episodes have been downloaded from the digital storefront since its inception, while more than 800,000 shows, and 350,000 movies, are downloaded each day,” AppleInsider reports. “Apple noted on Tuesday that the number of iOS titles up for offer has slowly grown to 900,000, 375,000 of which are designed especially for iPad.”

AppleInsider reports, “Developers have made $11 billion from App Store sales, half of which came from the last four months.”....:)

Wow, I just looked up the Starblazers Sound Almanac 1977 - never realized they'd actually done a compilation of the sounds/music from that series. One of my favorites as a kid!

There's a few interesting things on that list (including the above) but yes, a lot of garbage too.

This. I'm a Pandora One subscriber. Well worth the $38 / year price for commercial free, unlimited streaming music. Pandora has exposed me to so much new, non-mainstream music. There is a lot of talent out there -- but somehow the mainstream listener seems to accept the same old crap they are spoon fed day after day.

The "New and Noteworthy" page is bought and paid for, just like the home page banners.

Heyyyyy,

Bob Dylan never could sing but his stuff still sells like crazy. :p

The music industry is pretty upside down right now and there are no filters so to find gems you have to kiss a lot of frogs. As always there is no accounting for musical tastes. Here are a few recent releases that I found interesting and are excellently recorded by the best in the business:

Wendy Waldman is releasing a bunch of her music right now. (singer/songwriter best known for her work with Linda Ronstadt, Vanessa Williams, Garth Brooks, Bryndle) Outstanding songwriting and top musicians on this.

Mietek Szcześniak- A Polish male vocalist who is capturing the attention of some very influential producers. Touring the US in September.

Capital- Floats on Flat Tires. A Brazilian singer/songwriter with a growing popularity in the Americas.

I don't consider any of these pop mainstream music but rather interesting songwriting and musical styles with brilliant musicianship. Give em a listen and see if any of these move you.

You are right CD, Guy Clark certainly went to the Bob Dylan School of Bad Vocalists . . . ;)

I will check out the others.

Here in Canuckistan, music services are all hobbled or non-existent because of Canadian Content regulations to support local music. Of course, it really does springboard Canadian talent which is why so much of it pops up south of the boarder.

Rhapsody. Have subscribed for years. Service has gotten much better on burns. Worth the 10 bucks a month. Plus, they pay the musicians the most. Pandora - virtually nothing. (Radiohead just dropped them). Not sure about itunes.

There's very good music out there. It's harder to find, though but, it's out there.

Apple reports that Apple is doing great...

Shocking!

Now that the wizard is dead it will be interesting to see if they can keep up the momentum.
