Watched Lone Survivor Today.............
Whew, it was a hard movie to watch especially as I read Marcus' book and it was a bit hard to read! From what was covered in the book, the movie got most things pretty much spot on and the ending caused some tears to well up! I went in the Navy in 1965 and while the frogmen were just starting out I decided I wanted to not get shot at and became a machinist instead. Since I was an East Coast surfer, new aerodynamics and scored 100% on all their written tests, the Navy wanted me as a machinist or diver/frogman, Army as a helo pilot and the Airforce as a helo pilot so machinist it was. Back then ('Nam) as now, politics were the main cause of the problems such as needless men getting killed because of some government lawyers worrying about rules of engagement! Anyways, I think it was way better than the other recent movies. If you get a chance, go see it!

I saw the movie a few weeks back at a viewing held by the Navy Seals Foundation and its pretty close to the book. Its a real roller coaster ride but really shows how dedicated these guys are to each other. At the end the theatre was very somber and quiet. The families of the three SEALS who died were present for the viewing which was at first uncomfortable but they stand behind the film and the portrayal of the mission. I took along my teenage son to see the film and meet some SEALs we know as he has thoughts of joining the service and he came away impressed with the movie but above all the men. But it sure changed his notion of war, sacrifice and dedication. Go see it.

You can get the book as an ebook or PDF and read it on the phone. Once you start it becomes a very fast read and I went through it in 2 days.
