Can you ID this plane??

I can't figure them out.
The nose looks like a prop spinner, with little prop nubs sticking out.
But the wing roots are definitely intakes.

If this helps....
This hangar has a collection of derelict aircraft from the US, Italy, France, UK - and wherever the heck these things came from.
As far as I can tell, everything in there is from the 60s and 70s.

(Due to client confidentiality agreements, I cannot say who or where.)

Republic made a hybrid called the thunderscreech but it looks like the nose on these may be to short to be that airframe. It was tested in the 50s though.

Fouga Magister. The tailcones have been removed.

crustychief 07-24-2013 07:27 AM

I think you are correct. It is difficult to tell the length of the fuselage but you can definitely see the fin on the bottom and the antenna on the canopy. Threw me off thinking I was looking at the front!

Dang, you guys are good . . .

Could make for one interesting conversion.

When I was a young teen I put racing slicks on a wingless F-104 Starfighter model - it was wicked cool.:)

Well, mine was a plastic scale model, and it was around 1973. The rear wheels were much larger than the actual one in the article, very Hot Rod-ish.

Wern't the Fougas, with their 2 seats, french training planes for jet fighter pilots in the fifties?

TRE Cup 07-24-2013 04:33 PM

Yes, they were trainers and had light armament

I saw one once in Munich at an air show in the fifties. Those planes were tiny! I fantasized owning one and have a lot of fun with it.

Sorry. The photo, though cropped, is "as supplied" by our client. I've been noodling over this for a week now and finally decided to ask PPOT.

There is also a DH100 in the hangar.
