Gun in bars...I just don't understand...it...
Can't see any good coming out of this recent NC decision except more "self defense" type cases when a bar fight occurs. I'm just a bit afraid of what happens in our military "towns" when alcohol, testosterone, and lack of "common sense" prevails.
ps: I've certainly seen "guns in bars" before...like a pistol dropping on a dance floor, etc. but just don't think this is a very good idea at all. |
Guns and alcohol are never a good combo.......
Seriously?......They're going to allow this? |
What could possibly go wrong?
|
Not the brightest decision! I'm all for concealed carry but not when your drinking.
|
Concealed drinking sounds like more fun lol
|
I live in NC and have not heard about this change. When I did the ccw course they beat it into our heads that you could not carry anywhere that alcohol was sold.

Ask Plaxico Burress about this.

When's the last time you heard about someone who legally carried into a place that serves booze and then started trouble? I would think the media would love nothing more than to overblow such a story. Guns are allowed in most places that serve booze in AZ. Never heard of a single incident. IIRC, they're allowed in TX too, subject to the 51% rule. Where are all the bar shootouts?

And while we are at that, let's ban the full moon because it may disrupt sleep ... http://thechart.blogs.cnn.com/2013/07/26/full-moon-may-disrupt-sleep-study-says/?hpt=hp_t2 |
Then they should also reinstate all laws from the old west...if someone insults you in the bar, you can go outside and have a duel. If they insult your mother or cheat at poker, a bullet through the head at close range, etc...

And by that I mean, since when, because it wasn't the case when I lived there, and had been shot down several times. I figured it would never become law. |

Much ado about nothing.
30 seconds on Google tells me that in NC it is already illegal to carry and drink any alcohol. That did not change. The old law prohibited CCW not just in "bars", but "Any establishment where alcoholic beverages are sold and consumed". So if you were going out to dinner, and the restaurant sold wine, you couldn't carry. The "OMG GUNS IN BARS !!!!!!!" folks are just trying to scare people. The reality is that nothing will change. The people who get concealed carry permits are not a crime problem, period. Their crime rate is roughly equal to that of police officers. To be clear for those that may have missed it: IT IS STILL ILLEGAL TO DRINK ALCOHOL WHILE CARRYING. Business owners are able to prohibit carrying on their property, (because that worked out so well in Aurora CO). |
Not that I am an expert, but I believe that the states that do allow people to carry in bars or places that serve alcohol also state that you can only do that if you do not consume any alcohol. I have not read the full bill in NC but I did notice that their is a harsher penalty for consuming alcohol while carrying. Restaurants and bars can also post sign prohibiting guns if they are worried about that. At this point, the governor has still not signed the bill, so it is not law yet.

Once this is OK'd, it won't be just OK for CCW'ers imo. NC is "open carry"...though I've only seen one in the past few decades who felt the need...it's the "attitude" that some bring with 'em. I remember a video of an "open carry" guy (black dude) outside of a hotel known for prostitution, drug deals, etc. here just a couple of years ago. Many on this board were "championing" the guys idiocy in videoing his confrontation with a local cop (female). He's damn lucky he's not dead...no alcohol involved in that one either . Alcohol causes people to do really stupid stuff sometimes....like "fear for their lives" in a run-of-the-mill bar fight :D |
Down here in fayetteville I see at least one person a week with a pistol on their belt. The last guy has a little .22 in a cheap nylon holster. My wife and I regularly see the same worn out looking old women walking down the side of the road in Daisy Duke cut-off and a tube top... she has a BIG old revolver hanging down to her knee... We just laugh. I stick to CC when I carry at all which is probably less than I should.
