Talk me out of a KTM Super Duke!
There's a few low mileage Superduke 990's for sale in So Cal. My thoughts are to use it as a freeway bike for 25 miles each way.
I'll never track the bike or hammer canyons on it. I like the fact that the sitting position is close to MX which I have some seat time on Any problems with this bike? Prices are in the $6k-7k asking.http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1374954404.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1374954428.jpg |
You don't have it already? I doubt anyone is going to talk you out of it LOL
. |
Well I do need to get cash in hand
|
sell a kidney...it would be worth it!
|
do it... DO IT !!!
|
The fact that you'll not use it other than a commuter tells me you should buy a commuter.
|
Its perfect for me to use for this purpose
|
I'll be in the minority. For a freeway commuter I'd want some reasonable windshield up front along with ABS. And gear. Lots of gear.
I like the KTMs in theory, prefer a GS in reality. Mine will get more since as of today I'm carless :D |
Yup.... Look into something a little less boy racer....
And what's with this design trend? This and the new diavel both have that ugly forward slope nose thing. Fugly IMHO |
With out the windshield it will keep me closer to tje speed limit
|
Having commuted in LA on naked bikes and ones with varying shields, I'll take something up front. ymmv.
|
i went in for years car-less. rode a honda F4 for years..then some variation of ninja sport bike.
LOOOOOVED it! splititng lanes, running around san francisco, it was awesome. when i moved outside of the city, and had some hot ass weather, things got less fun. i say go for it. roosting around L.A. has got to be a great time. i bet wheelies are effortless on that!! |
I bet wheelies are easy on that.
I've seen this guy on the Ventura freeway headed into Thousand Oaks.

Don't get me wrong. I luv KTM's, especially my 625 SMC....For your lust and purpose and 1/2 the money:
Ducati S4S - more wind protection and storage; similar engine. Suzook SV 1000 or SV 1000S Suzook 1000 V-Strom More wind protection also...... But I have 15 bikes now, so just buy one of each? |
I sat on a duke today, and it just felt weird to me... I'd look at a touring bike from BMW or Ducati
|
Ran a few errands on the bike today. A GS is the perfect urban bike imho. Upright riding position, plenty of power, great handling and ABS, plenty of cases (need them if you commute) and big enough to be seen. The V-Stroms are another good choice if you want to spend less money, but you can find used GSs for reasonable prices.

Get the KTM. If you don't I will :)
Sent with Board Express |
i saw one of these today:
KTM 1190 RC8 R 2013 - Highlights i didn't even know that KTM made a superbike of any kind. i love the look and frame on these. i'd ride that bike, for sure, jim. |

I have a reputation to uphold. It's bad enough that I own a Corvette. If I owned a BMW no one would assume that I'm not an engineer. I've thought about the SV1000 but to be honest it's a little too vanilla. Look at the brakes and front fork of the Supperduke , Hell! just say the name Supperduke! It's not called the kinda ok duke, nor iffy John Wayne. The name alone is worth the $3000 more than an SV1000 I've ridden the Triumph Tiger as well. but I don't understand the need to have the extra 4" of fork and rear travel. I'll never take a heavy bike off road. I own a KX250 and it's a purpose built machine Having a GS or Tiger is kinda like expecting a awd escalade to to the work of a racetruck. I could also see owning a Triumph Speed triple but there's something about a -twin (that doesn't say potato-Potato-potato ) |
Well, that's why they make different bikes. If you dig it, buy it and ride it in good health.
