Goodbye friend. OSHA says we must part ways...

Time to part with a longtime faithful companion. The wonderful bureaucrats at OSHA says you are no longer worthy. They say I must have a new relationship with some unfeeling, plastic floozy. Thank you for all the years of service and protection you have given me old girl. :(

Hope you get to keep it....

What do the new ones look like?

Hugh R 07-29-2013 07:11 PM

Dielectric issues?

RWebb 07-29-2013 07:20 PM

you say you are being forced to get a new trophy wife?

VINMAN 07-29-2013 07:29 PM

Definately keeping it. It's my personal helmet. Not dept issue.

Hugh, its just over OSHA's "serviceable life" period. Over ten years old. (its actually over 20 yrs old. Been repainted a few times.. you can see the white from when I was Chief.) Ive been pushing it by refusing to give it up and wear my new one, I've been getting a pass because of my seniority and rank, but its at the point where it will be a legal issue if something happens to me.

I know it probably sounds corny to most outsiders, but firefighters sort of develop a deep attachment to our leather helmets. They are a vanishing item in the fire service.

New ones are a composite shell. ( or as we call them.. "tactical tupperware" )

Red things a garritty flashlight. Longtime fave light of ours. cheap dependable.

Still got plenty of life left in her Randy!

GWN7 07-29-2013 10:48 PM

First one I ever got (which I still have) had a "best before date" stamped in it (plastic). I looked at it and it was past it's best before date when it was issued. :)

Vinny,

When you consider WHY yo wear one, I would think you would be clapping the best equipment you could get on that noggin of yours.

The guys in F1 don't wear half-helmets and string back gloves any more.
Stay safe out there.
And Thank you.

Les

Helmets for track use have a service life, too. I'd keep the helmet for sentimental reasons.

GH85Carrera 07-30-2013 04:23 AM

That is a cool old helmet. I am sure it has seen some hot and very cold times. I can't imagine you ever getting rid of it.

I understand the attachment to it, but it is time to get the state of the art for this millennium, not the last millennium.

weseeeee 07-30-2013 04:37 AM

Great helmet. She served you honorably. Put it in your office or display it some where you can see it often, and stay safe with your new one!

Baz 07-30-2013 05:15 AM

She served you well. Put her in your office...smile at her...and thank her often. She deserves that much.

Via con Dios old friend.....:(

Vinman - Legal issue? What the.... you guys are running into fire's battling horrific and potential lethal matters. Who's going to make it a legal issue?

BTW- That helmet has a soul, speaks pride and bravery.

WTF would he want to sell it? Can you not see that he might be a bit sentimental about it? Dude, you really have some left field type issues going on.

Vinny - cool old hat!
