ZTR mowing PSA
Was recently involved with the results of a tragic situation. A very young child approached and was then accidentally run over by a ZTR operated by an adult relative. I can see how it would happen given the mower's ability to rapidly change direction away from obstacles holding the operator's attention and a child simply wanting to talk to the operator.
The child should survive but life will be very different as a result of the above. ![]()

Oh god! Stop! Ugh...That's terrible
![]() Reminds me of a parent I saw using a pushmower, and letting their toddler help by standing between the parent and the mower deck surrounded by the mower handle as the walked around the yard. |

Happens every year sadly. I know a young lady whose dad accidentally backed over her on a riding mower. She lived but her one leg will never be the same again.
The PSA should be: Parents, when you're operating lawn equipment, make sure your children are in the house. The rule I always had when running a skid steer loader or my lawn mower was that the kids stayed in the house until I was done.

beyond the backing over danger...the small stones, rocks can ricochet at any time.
I never mow when I see someone within a hundred feet or so.

Sorry to hear that hopefully the child recovers . When our boys were younger they were not allowed near where I was mowing . This is exactly the reason why . Parenting is hard but has to be done well .

That sends shudders through my body thinking about this. Praying for a quick, and complete recovery for the child (physically), and the adult (mentally) !

We used to have a poster here. He hasn't been around in a while. I hope he's doing well, but the last I heard he was battling cancer.
Johnco. I think the story that he told was that his dad ran over him with a mower/tractor when he was a kid. I found one of his old posts. Quote:
