New Pound Puppy, beaten but OK

Our dog of 14 years died a few months ago. So we went to the Castaic Animal Shelter and picked this gem up. She's about 4 months old. A Stray, but some sick SOB previous owner had apparently put a rubber band or something around her nose and lower jaw for a while to the extent that it left a permanent scar. I have no idea why, she's sweet and doesn't bark and doesn't chew.

Sedated now due to getting spayed this morning. We thought of naming her Scarlett, as in O'Hara from Gone With the Wind, but my wife thought she might get a complex from the name (J/K), so we named her Tara, which was the name of the Plantation where Scarlett O'Hara (Vivien Leigh the actress) always felt safe. I can tell by the way she cringes that some POS guy was the abuser.

Animal abusers are the lowest form of scum on the Earth.

good for you! Our last six dogs were found/rescued. Had a dog that looked similar to yours, just had to put him down on Memorial Day after 13 years. 135 pounds though. My tile contractor found him and his brother tied to his front door at his shop in Pico Rivera at about 8 weeks old for no reason. his brother went top my friends house with two kids and me and my boy roamed so cal in the desert/off road seen for along time. Best dog ever, loyal, smart, loving. we now have three Chihuahua / pugs that my SO rescued the mom from a playground in Santa Ana. Someone pitched her there because she was preggo. now we have three.

And I believe child and animal abusers should receive full desert justice, Clint style. Harm the innocent, pay the price.

Good on you for rescuing the pup; give her a good belly rub from us.

Agree -- a special corner of he11 for those who prey on the weak and innocent.

Thanks everyone. First night at home. Gotta get her used to the swimming pool and stuff. Gotta train her about the doggie door and the coyotes. Going to take her and the Big Ass RV to Carpenteria State Beach on Wednesday for a few days.

Like raising a new born; which I get to help with in about 4 months with my 26 year old daughter and her husband; she's due in late November. They live in Manhattan.

That's terrible about the binding on the snout. I hope the person who did that got some jail time. It is a jailable offense. Hopefully it will grow in a bit.

But, no matter, her beauty is inside. Glad you got her.

Way to go Hugh! Soon, you're gonna want to re name her "Shadow", because she won't leave your side. She knows what you did for her and she appreciates it, rescue/ shelter dogs are the best!

Thanks for rescuing her Hugh! Looks like a great little girl you've got there. If you have any issues or questions regarding rehabilitating an abused dog, my wife is an animal behaviorist and I'm sure she'd be able to answer any questions you might have.

Take care,
Michael

Hugh, looking at that dawg, it looks like a Huntaway sheep dog. Google images the name and see what you think.
