Computer gurus I need help: Weird gooogle javascript issues
(sorry for the long post)
1). Previously I was using the latest FireFox with NoScript only. The computer would occasionally lock up for 10-30min, until a javascript error popup finally appeared. I would stop that script, and the computer would function normally. Typical errors: Script: chrome://browser/content/tabbrowser.xml:2189 Script: resource://gre/modules/XPCOMUtils.jsm:332 Script: resource://services-common/preferences.js:375 Script: resource://gre/modules/ContentPrefService2.jsm:735 Script: chrome://global/content/bindings/browser.xml:807 Script: resource://app/modules/DownloadsCommon.jsm:215 Script: chrome://global/content/bindings/browser.xml:807 Script: resource://gre/components/nsContentPrefService.js:858 Script: resource://app/modules/offlineAppCache.jsm:16 Script: chrome://browser/content/sanitize.js:137 Script: resource://app/modules/DownloadsCommon.jsm:215 Script: resource://app/components/nsBrowserGlue.js:310 Script: resource://gre/modules/XPCOMUtils.jsm:329 Script: resource://services-common/preferences.js:375 Script: resource://gre/components/nsContentPrefService.js:852 Script: resource://gre/modules/DownloadLastDir.jsm:80 2). I added the Ghostery extension (a Google product) to stop these javascripts and problems. The same problem would still occur, now more so. After a few weeks, the lock-ups became quite severe. My hard drive was getting seriously trashed. Even email literally took hours as the hard drive spun and spun. 3). Today I 'disabled' the Ghostery extension while offline. -A 'Ghostery fix' webpage tab appeared whilst I was offline. Huh? -I rechecked FF extensions but Ghostery extension was still 'enabled'. Huh? 4). I 'removed' Ghostery this time, restarted FF, and the computer functions just like brand new again. 5). Connected to the internet again, clicked on the regular PPOT bookmark: Off Topic Discussions - Pelican Parts Technical BBS. It was a blank page. The bookmark had changed. Huh? 6). Did a web search for Pelicanparts, clicked on this link http://forums.pelicanparts.com/off-topic-discussions/, and everything works again normally. So what causes these javascript issues? It's just like a DDOS attack. Last edited by john70t; 08-05-2013 at 07:24 AM.. |

Update:
This post appears as a blank page, until javascript for 'Google syndication/analytics/other' is allowed. And several duplicate posts were made while editing. Strange. Last edited by john70t; 08-05-2013 at 07:25 AM.. |

(If anyone knows of a fix I'd appreciate it. This affects my business.)
I installed "Google Ghostery' a few weeks ago. Then uninstalled it. Then some strange issues occured: -Bookmarks show up as blank pages. -Pelican post results show up as blank. -Other pages on the web (i.e. Trulia seach results) show up as blank. It's odd. This has never occured before. Nothing else on the computer was changed. All I did was remove the FF Ghostery extension. |
