Can I fix this computer problem myself?

I bought an Acer laptop in June. It's a factory refurb, but I can't find any signs of use, had all the plastic seals on and looked totally new. Came loaded with Windows 7 and one year manufacturer's warranty. Recently, it started freezing up when it hibernated. I could move the cursor around, but not click on anything, again, only after it had hibernated and I woke it back up.

Called Acer tech support (in India) and they started working on it, said they could fix it, but would be $130 and that the warranty was for hardware only. It came with three mos. of McAfee, which is still in effect. They say some files got corrupted anyway. Short of formatting the hard drive and reloading Windows, is there a simple DIY fix for this? Ain't paying $130 to repair a two mos. old laptop.

blow everything off of it including the hibernation file

then reload it up from ground zero

If you have the Windows install CD, try to repair it first. Boot to the CD, follow the prompts.

Mine does the same from time to time.

I just restart and deal with it.
The previous owner gave it to me.
He has no patience for that sort of thing. ( I don't really care, as it is my travel/race track computer )

It's probably the hybernation file, have you googled the problem at all?

I would start with turning the hybernation options off, cleaning out all temporary files for Windows, IE, Firefox, etc... Then I would turn off temp files for your browsers just for good housekeeping. Once you have hybernation off, you should be able to remove the hybernation file (it's a large file in the root of the C:/ drive usually. It's not named 'pagefile' which is your computers virtual memory or 'paging' file; don't delete that one.

Seriously, google's your friend here...

Windows 7 won't wake up after sleep
