considering purchasing used Porsche Cayenne
 

Budget is 15-20 k, seems it may likely be a 2004-2006. Would like to know any pros cons to these years. Anything to specifically look out for? I'm not interested in turbo. I've seen 04-06 models with 70 k- 150k miles. My brother had an 08 and loved it. Any insight would be appreciated..Thanks, Tim

You probably know about the coolant pipe's, coil packs,trans valve body, and cardan shaft bearing, You should also be aware of the cylinder scoring issue with the V8's.
If you find one you like make sure you have a leakdown test done. if there's any leakdown into the hole walk If the owner states there's any oil usage walk
They're good driving vehicles but are expensive to maintain. As with any vehicle they get better every year so the newer the better

Also.....be prepared for horrible gas mileage and premium only!

Thanks guys for info so far..I appreciate the input. I've been looking for the 6 cylinder, not that many around. It will be a 3rd car so won't be driven that much but , mileage and premium gas is a concern. Just kinda kicking tires now...Thanks again, Tim

They're a little pokey

Dan, no at this point only my brothers 2008 S. Drove it for about a 6 hour ride in the mountains. It was almost as much fun as my 911.. Tim

That's the problem with the 6 cyl. Lacking in power they tend to be driven harder, thus getting about the same mpg as the 8 cyl.
I've had two S Cayennes, an 04 and an 06. Both were very fast and you could almost watch the gas gage drop when punched.

Maybe look at the VW version

Checked out the vw toureg, they are a little cheaper but seem to have quite a few shortcomings. Trans failure, elect failure and brake problems. Still contemplating the Cayenne bad gas mileage and all...Tim
