What's Brisbane like?

Going to be awesome to get a break from this brutal heat in Houston. I land on Monday the 22. Anything that I absolutely must check out? I will have a car so getting around won't be a problem.

This will be my first long distance business trip. I am admittedly pretty excited!

Thanks!

If transportation isn't a problem, and you have the time, get down to Surfer's Paradise/Gold Coast. It's about an hour south of Brisbane. Lot's of fun to be had!!!

I once spent a few days on Frazier Island. That's a bit far north, but Moreton Island looks equally nice. The water on the stark white sand is awesome.

Back in the late 90's, Gilhooley's was the place to be. The Vic was popular...and another place, right around the corner...some 'numbered' place...Club 371, or something like that. I was stationed out at RAAF Base Amberley...we'd take the train into Brisbane on the weekends and live it up!!!

Brisbane is real nice. The flight over there is brutal. The flight home is worse. Other than that, it's probably going to be great trip.

I wouldn't expect to get a break from the heat. I spent a month there this time last year and it was still hot.

Driving is probably going to be an experience, too. The RHD thing really messed with me. You will see a lot of really cool cars over there.

Brisbane is a great city. Easy to get around and very scenic. Lots of stuff to do. You must head down to the Gold Coast on a hot day. Topless everywhere. You'll have a great time.

I travel there about once a month for business and I love it. The people are great, the climate is fantastic. As above I'd take the time to go South to the Gold Coast or North to the Sunshine Coast

Brisbane off the 101 in the bay area near San Francisco. Nice place, my wife use to live there for about 5 years. I am sure that isn't the place you are talking about.

One of the best Aussie gents you could ever meet lives in Brisbane.

See if you can team up with John (Fishcop) for beers and Morton Bay bugs.

Try and go a little north of Brisbane -- 2hrs drive gets you to the resort town of Noosa (I lived there for 6 years( .. nice place with great Surf.
Fraser Island is an absolute must ... worlds largest sand island .... and there are whales around there.
From Bundaberg (about 5hrs drive away) you can even catch a Large Catamaran out to the bottom of the Barrier Reef and do some snorkling or a dive .....

Forget Brisbane, except for work, come up to Cairns,2 hrs on domestic flight, have spare house and happy to show you the sights, of course in the 911, look Cairns up on the net, no other place like it in our winter months (May to September)in Australia,no other Australian will argue with me on this, anyway enjoy your time in Oz, oh ,no dingo`s where I live ,so your safe.
Cheers Brett L Cairns ,Australia

THIS/\/\/\ Surfed Noosa, tee tree's, etc around there. You NEED to go North AND South of Bris...Surfer's paradise was cool too. My son just got back from Bond University (1/2 hr from Surfer's Paradise)...I'll ask him the places nearby. Have fun!

Great place...spent a couple of months at the Uni there, then a couple of weeks camping on the beaches north of Cairns.

Super people, great weather this time of year...

Pots of 4x around a fire chatting with the locals...good times

I thought XXXX Gold was the beer of choice for Queenslanders - but hey Tom - you'll like it - especially Noosa & parts north.

Cheers

They talk funny there. And if you get in trouble the prime minister will kick you really hard with a giant boot.
I saw it on TV
