UPS flight down outside of Birmingham
A300 crash just outside airport. Seems like the news doesn't pay much attention to cargo crashes. They would be all over this if it had passengers on board.
|
Uh....for pretty good reason, no?
|
It was on the news as soon as it happened - 5:05 a.m. or so, and continue with the "live" reporting as we speak... Heavy fog here that just started to lift.
|
The media will report heavily on this, but mostly because they had a good run with the SF Asiana crash. I have heard little other than related buzzwords - 'short of runway' etc. Trying to make some sort of relation between the crashes for the viewing/listening public.

I just saw a video of a witness stating there was an explosion in the air before the plane impacted the ground.

As soon at the news said it was a cargo plane from Louisville I knew it was UPS.

Explosion? Break up in flight? Ground impact +mushroom cloud? |
People on the ground reported engines were popping/struggling. Bird strike? Ran out of fuel?

After viewing pics of the crash, I was surprised that both pilots were killed... Cockpit seemed pretty much intact.
