Boat/trailer on roof rack Ford F250 advise please

I am trying to figure out what is the best way to put my flat bottom boat and trailer on top of my truck. The problem I am facing is that I tow a 26' travel trailer north to duck hunt and had a smaller Jon boat that I car topped. Sold the small boat and bought a bigger one with trailer. Anyone ever use ramps and winch a boat/trailer up on the roof? Pics below...any suggestions? Boat/trailer weigh about 650 pounds

Richard

maybe rollers on the lumber rack with a winch on the cab over portion of said lumber rack and tug it on sans trailer? if the launch is concrete might even be easier to reload with the back of the truck in the drink up to the bumper while the boat floats than at home??? I know climbers have methods of rope n pullies that might enable you to pull on & up from the trailer hooked to the truck when loading from home? some well thought out ramps from the trailer to the lumber rack could also help coax it up. it's near done in my head,, sans the knots n pullies part....

Leave the trailer behind. If you are correct at 650 lb that has to be at least 250 for the trailer. Then put the motor in the back of the truck that should leave about a 250 lb boat on your roof rack which 2 people should be able to pull off and carry to the water add motor and go duck hunting??

Sell the travel trailer, buy a 26 ft box truck, convert truck to camper, tow boat.

Add a hitch to the rear of your trailer and tow both. Be very careful backing up but I think it might be legal as long as you are under 53 ft total. LOL

I have my doubts about that rack and your bedsides holding the weight of all of that long term.

We run racks on all our pickups, and we always building them ourselves and tie them clear down to the bed of the truck, not just the bedsides. The bedsides will crack with rattles of going down the road. Plus with the trailer you are looking at being pretty damn tall too...

Oh, and unless you and your buddy both are nicknamed Mongo, I doubt you will be lifting 250lbs up over your head onto that rack. Again, thats a lot up high, it won't be fun to get up there, and then it will really suck getting down.

Again, we use racks all the time, and loading and unloading stuff that high up isn't as easy as just picking it up. Its a damn good way for two guys to end up with a very nice back injury.

Buy an inflatable boat and put it in the back of the truck.

Well...there is no way Mongo and I are lifting this boat up that high and yes, the motor rides in the back of the truck. Porsche4life raises a good point about weight on the lumber rack/bed. Perhaps I just need to make two trips and just leave the trailer up there. The blind folds down but is heavy and cumbersome. Hmmm....

It might just be an optical illusion, but it sure looks like your camper shell is awful close to the cab of the pickup...

How about: No trailer, just the boat, rig up a winch and rollers to get it up and off.

(Why anyone in their right mind would get up at the crack of dark to stalk the wily duck is beyond me...last time I did that was the last time I did that...)

You've never had a proper Beijing Duck.

Granted it is made with farm raised and not wild duck.

take boat leave trailer

Putting the boat on the top rack by itself does not have to involve lifting it straight up and sliding in place or the reverse to take it down. You simply install a set of rollers across the rear bar of the rack then set the front (top) of the boat on the rollers. Next, lift at the back with a buddy and slide/roll it onto the rack from the rear. The boat then rides top down and bow forward so it is more aerodynamic than any other configuration. To get it down, simply start sliding/rolling it back and lower the stern slowly to the ground then go up front and lift the bow off the rack and lower to the ground. Mission accomplished.

PS. this may even be possible single-handed if you are strong enough to lift one end of the boat by yourself.

I would only do that if the F truck was converted to a flatbed and then I still would not know how to roll it on there.

Maybe I can help tow the boat for you if you want company on the opener. Have dog will travel ...

Cheers,

G

That,s what I suggested earlier Backing up you could discon the lightweight boat and back it up by hand or park it and then drop the trailer and recon the boat to launch but it would get both the boat and camper there in a single trip.
My cdl allows me to tow both but I,ve never done it.

I have double pulled a bunch, my ATV trailer was behind my travel trailer. I have pics somewhere I can dig up. It's doable you just have to plan ahead.

Unhooking the heavy ATV trailer on some single track so you can turn around sucks btdt
