is it wrong that i miss my life before CATS?
riffing off of schumi's epic thread. for fun. purely for fun.
i have two cats. one is old, and despite being healthy and beating my odds i have placed on her survival. she will not, or should not be long for this world. how long do demons live anyways? my second cat is young..full of life. full of loooooonnnnng life. i am not a cat person. my wife is a cat person, which by default makes me a cat person. am i selfish for not wanting them? i love the younger cat, but her nickname is "last cat". cat hair everywhere, i sweep-vacuum daily. i am a slave to the litter box. daily mine sweeping exercises. and there is nothing that smells worse than cat waste. #1 or #2..i challenge you to find a more foul odor. they have established themselves as squatters. they are here, i dont want them gone. i love them..they wore me down. but i will fight tooth/nail to prevent another one from getting into the inner circle. discuss! cats, i have them, and i dont get it. |
You need an iRobot Roomba. Automatic vacuuming.
You also need to make the cats indoor/outdoor cats, and put the litter box outside, then eventually take it away. They will do their business and bury it and it won't be your chore. Finally, if they are your wife's cats, why are you doing the hair vacuuming and litter box? Who is the pussy here??? |
I like CATS...... That's the dynamic suspension and stability control system for jaguar.......it rocks when you don't have a blown air strut......
Cats on the other hand.......meh.......I'll take my pup any day over a cat |

I would NEVER tolerate an indoor cat. I like a barn cat that comes inside for a petting a few times a week. I like those type of cats. But so do my dogs, and not in a good way. I may never have a cat again, I am afraid.
So, to fix your problem, get a hunting dog. G |
No. It is not wrong.

Sounds logical to me. Can't you just forget to close the door one day before heading to work?;)
|
Sounds like you really love your wife to continue putting up with this cat scenario. Our last dog went byebye two years ago. We are enjoying our freedom from pets.
Cats to me don't come close to dogs as pets. Allergies, cat hair, fluff, vacuuming all the time. Still enjoying the vacation from pets...... |
Me, I like em, but it totally depends on the cat, or in my case cats :)

Cats? I like 'em a lot. House seems empty without them. We have a pair, each totally different from the other. They are such characters. But cat hair? You bet. Slave to the litter box? Yep, you absolutely have to be. To me, it's worth it. Especially when you see that they completely realize how much a part of the family they are.

I don't think you're wrong at all. I hate cats. We had 2 that were fine, until we had kids. The older one didn't like our first born, so he peed all over her stuff. We gave him to an elderly couple who wanted a nice lap cat, on the condition that if he kept peeing outside the litter box we'd take him back. Our younger cat did the same thing after our 2nd daughter was born. We setup the tent in their playroom for a couple days, for the kids to play in, but the cat decided he liked it better than the litter box (which, I might add, was an electronic one, so always clean). As I was cleaning that mess up, after yelling at him, he went upstairs and shat on our daughter's bed. That earned him a one-way trip to the spca that afternoon.
No more cats. They're dumb, selfish animals. And for anyone who tries to tell me "oh yeah, they're smarter than dogs", tell me when was the last time you saw a guide cat? Or a drug-sniffing cat? Or a hunting cat? Exactly. |
I've had a dog, cat, or dog and cat for over 30 of my 49 years. I love animals. I just don't want to live with any right now. I don't mind the small stuff my daughter keeps (rats, guinea pigs, snake), but I'm just not interested in anything too big to bury in the back yard upon its demise.
We're currently dog sitting for some friends. The goofy 10 month old would make anyone want a dog. He's good natured and always happy. I got up the morning to find that he'd destroyed a laptop battery charger. Then I found that he'd chewed threw the very heavy duty power cord to my stereo's Monster Power Center. I'm guess that since he's still alive that it came unplugged before he chewed clean through the wires in two different places. Our house is full of various doggy chew toys and he picks stereo equipment? |
I love my cats (have three). They're a blast and fun. And largely self-sufficient which counts for a lot. I like dogs but could never own one. The way you have to revolve your life around a dog's pooping schedule is a non-starter for me. So is having to go walking outdoors when it's 20 degrees outside, pitch black and with 15 feet of snow on the ground. Screw that. The cats just need their boxes cleaned out every 3-4 days (self-cleaning litterboxes are a fabulous invention). Keep 'em brushed and happy and they're pretty great pets - very affectionate, playful and fun when I'm around and perfectly content and self-reliant when I'm not (just keep the auto feeder and water fountain full and it's good).
Mine don't really do the puke (blook blook blook) thing much - maybe once a month but I can deal with that. Something grosses me out about dogs since they have a strange fascination with poop and in some cases eating it. And they slobber on things, which I'm not a big fan of. Overall dogs are fine though. Just not for me. |
Leave the door open and then it's "sorry honey, don't know where the cat went" I can't stand cats. Love my dogs though.
|
Seems selfish to me ;)
:p |
I love cats. I miss my cat that disappeared in January. However, my allergies are night and day. And since we put a HEPA filter into the bedroom, another order of magnitude better.
If I do get another one, it will have to be one of the hypoallergenic breeds. |

I know people that let their dogs sleep with them, in bed.
Even oily old water dogs. |
