There's an exception to every rule. My 1970 Vette exception.

I don't normally take on unfinished projects from other shops but this was an exception. One of my more active Porsche customers needed help finishing a job that was started by another shop. The car came to me in boxes and bags. The frame had been powdercoated and the body had already been painted. It's been five years start to finish with a couple periods of stagnation while other issues took my attention away from it.

1970 Vette all numbers matching 390 hp. 454 ci automatic with a/c. Donnybrook Green with green interior.

It was a COPO purchased by the owner of a Santa Monica Chevy dealer for his wife(hence the automatic).

That era was a pretty good one for the Vettes wasn't it? I like the older styling better than the modern ones.....

Nice job Kev!

slow&rusty 08-15-2013 06:18 PM

Very nice

Oh Haha 08-15-2013 06:28 PM

Sweet! I have nothing against Corvettes, especially this era.

Hugh R 08-15-2013 06:29 PM

Nice! However I see a blemish. Opps, it was schmutz on my screen, nevermind.

Nostril Cheese 08-15-2013 06:35 PM

When did they drop the stingray name? I was under the impression that only '68 and '69 models were still called Stingrays.

HardDrive 08-15-2013 06:37 PM

I like anything pre 73 when they still had chrome bumpers.

Yeah - same rule of thumb as for MG's!

Hugh R 08-15-2013 07:01 PM

And wire wheels on the MGs,

I don't think 69s had it, in 70 it was moved up to the fenders.

1975. Stingray 15 model years where the names Corvette, Sting Ray, and Stingray were synonymous.

c-2 was the real stingray

c-3 was the mako-shark II

Fantastic, well done.

A 454/390 automatic required a COPO? Seems odd. Nice job, BTW!

In the design stage.

I would be proud to own it Nice work!

livi 08-15-2013 08:37 PM

Excellent! Ship it here! I want!

Correction: The C2 was the Sting Ray (two words)

Small distinction, I know... but important to those who love the C2. :)

Would require the growth of mutton-chop sideburns to properly complete the package.

Still want it?

ZOO 08-16-2013 04:31 AM

Gorgeous car. Early C3s are so much more attractive than the later ones.

cashflyer 08-16-2013 04:41 AM

I love that Donnybrook Green paint.

kach22i 08-16-2013 04:54 AM

Nice car, I love that dark green color in that year of body style, plus the dark maroon on an overcast day also looks good on that car.

KevinTodd 08-16-2013 05:07 AM

Love it. Great color, great lines and still somewhat affordable compared to the c2.

scottmandue 08-16-2013 07:06 AM

Want to trade for a nicely set up Miata?

No, seriously. :D

Love the coke bottle vettes!

VincentVega 08-16-2013 10:23 AM

Very nice. Chrome bumpers look right on these.

johnsjmc 08-16-2013 06:04 PM

I also have almost the same car ALSO in boxes. A 1972 454 auto with AC . Original colour was green but it was repainted red about 15 yrs ago.
I like looking at it in the garage more than actually driving one.

mikeesik 08-16-2013 08:49 PM

Nice. The Apollo Fella's wore this vehicle as their transportational suit.

71scgc 08-17-2013 06:58 AM

Donnybrooke was one of the greatest greens on a C3. The other was Fathom Green.http://i1295.photobucket.com/albums/...pseda8db00.jpg My '71 in Steel Cities Grey. May not be everyone's fave, but it does have the best name ever given a paint.

A solid rear axle...sniff...how uncivilized!

Beautiful vette! Great job.

Beautiful vette! Great job.

Corvette hasn,t used a solid rear axle since 1962.

mreid 08-17-2013 08:03 AM

Oops, you are correct! Still a beautiful car.

aigel 08-17-2013 08:16 AM

Nice job. Too bad it is an auto. This is the last gen Vette that still came predominantly with a stick. I had a 71 ragtop for a while in sunflower yellow. Bucket list item.

FLYGEEZER 08-17-2013 09:09 AM

I like it ! Just as it is. Automatic & all. But Carters Steel City Grey 71.........WOW +1. Best color option for a Corvette. IMO.

Indeed - not a pony or Muscle car - the C2/C3 platform was a lot sportier than some of the Euro car snobs may think. I.e. the engine was behind the rear wheels. It was the later 70s and 80s when the Vette became a pig, albeit still with independent rear suspension. ;)

I think you mean Engine was behind the FRONT wheels.
I have my 72 big block Vette parked beside my 911 , biggest difference is the extra foot of length and the extra 500 lbs.
The Vette from about 74 to 82 deserved it,s "pregnant whale" nickname . Horsepower was down to something like 165 hp from the 350 . I think my old SC was something like 180? during the same period.
Marketing focus changed and they sold to people like my mother. (Who owned a 1975 when new and liked it alot)
