Need Pelican Advice - Just Bought Honda Odyssey

Chicago area active Pelican, (still) DE/Track novice Soccer Dad here...

Any advice as to what the BEST Honda Odyssey Technical Forum/discussion might be??

I've researched 3 now, and recent post counts are scarce to nil...

Looking for similar site for Pelican 911 but for Honda Odyssey.

Thanks guys!

Tom
Once I get back to the track, I will have towing package...will need trailer next.

I never had any problems with our 2000 Ody so I never looked for a tech forum. We recently got a CR-V and I found this forum: Honda CR-V Owners Club Forums

I notice they have TSB's listed for the Ody too so you might check there.
What year Ody do you have?

Bought the MY 2014 last night, EXL. And was really just looking for tips/tricks that owners might find.

Thanks Scott.

I think the biggest tip I could offer is get a good set of floor mats (WeatherTech) since you live in snow country. I wanted to get those or at least a cargo liner for the CR-V but, well, we're now on a pretty tight budget so that didn't happen.

If you're into doing your own oil changes I've found H and A Honda has good prices on filters. They sell 'em in a six pack now. Cheaper delivered to my door including the shipping than what the dealers around me charge for 'em.

Had an 07 Oddy until earlier this year. The perfect vehicle. I can't imagine many tech tips because I can't imagine much that could it should be done with one. They're just so good out of the box that any improvements are likely to backfire.

As far as owner's experience goes, if you live in a cold weather climate, snow mats are a good idea. The only essential is to get dedicated snow tires for winter - not all year M&S tires - real dedicated snow tires like Blizzaks. With good tires an Oddy has pretty average to below average traction. I got stuck once going up a pretty modest hill that was only slightly slippery. But with four Blizzaks, I was almost as good in snow as a four wheel drive SUV. The tires make a world of difference.

Take it easy towing. It will handle small loads. Just don't take its claimed towing capacity seriously. Cut it in half and you have the realistic towing capacity for anything beyond short trips around town.

What else can be said? They're so good it would be hard to make them better.

We have owned 2 Odysseys, a 2005 and a 2012. All in all, great cars. I would rate the later car as more a highway cruiser. Can drive all day at 80-85mph without breaking a sweat with good gas milage. Around town, the size of the car and suspension are down a bit. Lots of blind spots, but that's why they have camera's and blind spot detection. We have used it for college move ins and when you put the 3rd row down and take out the 2nd row seats, you can haul a ton of stuff!! I see you live in Chicago. We found that this car requires dedicated snow tires for any kind of winter driving. We tried the first year but the front wheel drive kept slipping on any inclines. Ordered a set of wheels and tires from Tirerack since and it is much better.

Bulletproof appliance. The newer iteration (with the dip in the back window area), is far improved in terms of road noise. Have about 45k on our 2011 and it's been flawless. If you're hoping to make it a "hobby" device (forum) you'll be disappointed. It is what it is. Use it and enjoy. We do all service at the dealership (quick and cheap) as recommended on the dash and that's well....it.

I haul my family around in a 2007 EX-L. Have had a few issues with bad sliding doors, a recall on the brakes, and a CEL that I was able to diagnose as an O2 sensor.

All of these were noted on Honda Odyssey Forum : Odyssey Minivan Forums

Odyclub is great as one of the posters stated. For parts I like curry acura. Great prices and free shipping so you can get fluids too. Honda uses its own transfluid?

It's a Honda. It's what you drive when you don't feel like having to join internet forums to have a good relationship with your vehicle.
