38 Chev Businessmans Coup
Hauled this home for a buddy today. The PO paid someone $10K to do the bodywork. The only part that didn't come with it was the front windshield.

$10K?
![]() That is some seriously lumpy bodywork, but I guess it's a start. And not knowing what it looked like beforehand.

It's very lumpy. It is going to take several hours (weeks) with a hammer & dolly to get it straight. As to what it will end up as it came with a SBC but my buddy has a 454 & trans that might get used in it. It has a mustang front end converted to the Chevy bolt pattern and 12 bolt rear diff.

Don't beat on it too hard. Looks like it been beat too much already. Get the worst of it and skim the whole thing. Bodywork is something you strive to accomplish with the least amount of work possible.

No offense... But how much do you have to abuse a trailer for fenders to look like that?

Only problem with this type of open wheel wells is you have to get both sides as straight as you can or it shows. You just can't cover one side. The good part is vehicles of this age had fairly thick sheet metal and can be straightened very well. The lumps shown were probably large dents that were worked out to the point they are today.

I have to disagree with the naysayers above. Body work is not cheap. That car has had a roof chop, and the roofline and rear deck look pretty damn good to me. There is a reason hot rods are expensive, and its not because they a good cars. They are expensive to create.

Just recently attended "Hot August Nights" in Reno. The cars were to die for. I fell in love with the 30's era cars. The money to make those cars pristine is just amazing.

My trailer fenders look just like that. I used to have no step decals on them but over the years, they have taken a beating. Some new heavy duty fenders are on my list of upgrades next season
