As long as they didn't have to get somewhere quickly.

Seriously Shaun, it all depends on the body style. Cabriolet A or B, Sedan, or Roadster. Roadsters (very rare) go for big bucks. Cabs not so much, and sedans are at the low end of the spectrum. Anywhere from $2,000 for a basket case sedan, to $175,000 to $200,000 for a pristine roadster.

Thanks Dave. In my regular searches, I found this car. $6K, a sedan needing total restoration, but is supposed to be in decent shape as a base.

Doesn't really look to be in that bad of shape.... I'd go for it if the undercarriage was solid.

Any replacement parts will be killer expensive, if you can find them. They'll make a Porsche seem like a Ford, in comparison. Parts for my 51 220 Cab are ridiculous, I can only imagine what they'd be like for a 37.

If I were you I would buy the thing and resell it as a project in Europe. I'd be very surprised if you didn't make 20 or 30K$ on the flip. Seriously. (assuming you get for little money)

I emailed the seller a few weeks ago on this car, but never heard back about it. The price seemed OK to me as well.

Talked with the owner at length yesterday. For it's age, he had quite a bit of knowledge about the history of the car, noting it spent some time in Poland. he's had several people look at it, highest offer was $4500. The car is very complete and from the sound of it, in better shape than most barn find 60s 911s I see. He's had it for over 20+ years and is fine with keeping it another 10. He also collects old guns and old BMW motorcycles.
I asked him about value and he thought it was worth $15K fully restored. I asked about European buyers and he said that since this particular car is a base model, he likened it to a Model A, it won't command much. He also didn't want the hassle of shipping overseas. I got the sense I could get the car for $5K, but wouldn't be worth it unless an overseas buyer was lined up for at least $10K.

Shaun, he may be going on "old" facts, remember, not that long ago, German's had no interest in 914, but now, they are paying good money for them..
Plus, that would be a cool parts runner..

As a street rod, it would be cheaper than a restoration. The pics above are way cool.
