Must have programs for Windows 8 for grandparents?
I'm taking over a new HP Touchsmart Windows 8 laptop to Russia for Mrs Motion's parents. I know NOTHING about Windows 8. Should I load anything up on it that would enhance their computing experience before taking it over? They will be using the machine for Skype calls, emailing, IMing, and photo library for their digital camera/camcorder.
Are the built-in Windows apps sufficient or is there anything that can be improved? Maybe something I haven't thought of that would be beneficial? |
Yeah, Windows XP or 7.

Interface will be Russian language. The touchscreen tile things are not good?

a connection to the Apple Store??

The best thing I ever installed on Windows 8 was Windows 7.
I'd give them a mac or an Ubuntu install before I would ever consider letting them fight with Win8. |
My FIL's PC took a dump couple of weeks ago.
He wanted to know what to buy next. Told him anything he could find that still had 7. He bought a box with 8 on it. A week later called and asked how he could get rid of 8 and go back to XP or 7. If they are computer neophytes then 8 won't likely make a diff to them. If they are used to anything older they may have a hard time adjusting. |

had to do complete clean and load, but wuz worth it. |
We're not talking power users here. Maybe 4-5 functions needed. The big tiles seem beneficial to me. It can't be that bad!
