Home Video Surveillance Question

In the next month or so, my next door neighbor will be returning from Connecticut.....where she's been incarcerated/under supervision due to a conviction for aggravated assault and burglary (she and some friends broke into a house, beat the occupant with a baseball bat then stabbed him in the back)

So....I'm going to put in a camera system that records to a DVR that I'll hide. I see that most of the available off the shelf stuff will send you alerts based on your preferences when they detect motion.
Any recommendations on brands? I think 4 cameras will do the trick for my needs.
Is there any way to hook one of these systems up to a siren so the siren goes off when it detects motion?

what you really need is a set gun

dropcam.com
easy to install..hd quality..recordable with alerts.

Set gun?

I've seen drop cam and they're in my list to consider, but I'd like some sort of audible deterrent as well

dropcam camera has a very visible light on it to show that it is active.

Just make sure the resolution is high enough. Often these ones just show a figure, but isn't good enough to hold up in court.

good point

I have a Night Owl 16 channel system, I picked up in Sams club. Also has an audio channel. Remote alerts, infra-red, etc.. I can view it from a remote location or my cell. Very happy with it. Word of advice. Spend the extra $$ for high resolution camera's. Makes a huge difference. Especially at night.

"broke into a house, beat the occupant with a baseball bat then stabbed him in the back"
She's getting out, and the kid that got caught with a joint will be staying in. Now that's justice.

Check your county codes. Here in Greenville county, the siren would get you fined.

Why not invest in a home alarm with motion and door/window sensors? Easy enough to install and you generally dont need monitoring if you dont want it.

Swann 8Channel, 4Camera Security System SWDVK-829004-US - Best Buy

This one emails you when motion is detected. You can see it from your iphone or iPad

HHI944 08-27-2013 03:19 PM

Ive seen those swann systems as well as similar spec and price samsung at sams club....

Im really thinking about just getting a few foscam units....anyone have experience with setup on those? Looks like it can be a pain depending on your net service and router...im on roadrunner cable and an airport extreme

Sweet! Be sure to post your vid of the beating and stabbin! :)

Try Costco, look for what they have on sale. I bought a Q See a few months ago on sale for half price (was $800 paid $400), it's been fine so far. Mine came with 8 cameras, although I only needed 4. I've just kept the others as spares. Works well, can remote monitor from phone, computer, etc.
