As an owner of a Fluke device, there are also somethings you've left out in your list of temperature checks which you did not post.

You know.........

Oh hell, I'll just come out an say it, you mean to tell me with a new toy such as that you did not also use it to........:

- Validate that whole taking of the temperature thing via the who-who....
- Confirm the ball sack is in fact cooler than the rest of your body....
- Provide you with early ovulation detection, so early in fact it permits you to simply be in the right place at the right time....

Wow, Esel. You've got a **lot** of free time there down in Orlando.

Esel Mann 08-28-2013 06:49 PM

Did have a lot of free time. :) Not so much now. Job in MD has me quite busy.

I use mine in the kitchen. Great way to check fry temps and pancake griddle temps.

I've had an IR gun for years and that has never even crossed my mind.

Gettin old sux, git off my lawn.

I use mine in the kitchen so much I keep it in a drawer next to the cook top. I also used it to confirm how much my roof temp dropped after putting elastomeric coating on it. The temp of the black, torch down layer at 10 AM was usually 168 degrees at the time I decided to coat it. After the elastomeric coating, it dropped to 100 - 110 degrees.

I used one when I was working in a surgery center...used to shoot circuit breakers if one was hotter than the rest would signal a possible impending problem

Exhaust before and after a cat converter should be 50-100deg (so I've been told).
Means it's burning.

Manifold runners: Find the cool one, or the hot one.

Walls and windows during winter.

I did use mine to measure the temp diff between my gout knee and good knee. Cracked my wife up.

I have one at work for measuring concrete temps, hot asphalt, paint surfaces, etc. it is a great tool.

Vash, Is there a recordable difference externally between the knees?

Inquiring minds want to know! :D

I use mine also on my old Volvo brake discs to determine which caliper piston may be sticking.

that's A heck of a coinky-dink.
My right knee has a torn meniscus and when it acts up it swells and gets hot.
I shoot it with the IR gun to justify another cortisone shot.
Usually a delta T of about 5 degrees left vs right is enough.

sammyg2 09-01-2013 09:08 AM

BTW here's the best use of an IR gun I've found for old cars: shoot the exhaust pipes.

That'll tell you if one is running too lean (hotter) too rich, (cooler) or not firing at all (cold).

I think I got double digit deltas. I was pissed off and annoyed to take notes. I remember being amazed at the diff.

Samy. I have a quirky liver. I don't get cortisone shots with any regularity. I like them!
