NY/NJ folks, remember Action Park?

Every bit of this is true.

Park was built at a ski resort where during ski season they had night skiing.

It was actually something to do on a Saturday night, go there, hit the bar or whatever party they had, drink, then go ski on a sheet of ice in the dark.

Oh yeah. I was addicted to the 100 ft water slide. The first 20 feet were absolutely straight down. Loved that place.

The nickname used to be " Traction Park", because of all the injuries that occured there.

I hear you man! Most terrifying ride I have ever been on. Total vertical drop!
I'd bet 95% of the people on this board would have looked at that slide and said: "No F'in way". How about the 50 degree spring water waiting for you at the end of some rides??? Place was sick but I loved it! I watched an unruly crowd push someone from the staff down one of the slides (the one's with mats). Seeing her fat a$$ hit every jump without a mat was some of the funniest chit I've ever seen in my life.

Thanks for posting the video! Brought back some cool memories.

Loved it. It was pretty lawless in hindsight. The staff was completely overmatched. I remember some tube or body surf water ride where we stopped in the tunnel by holding our legs and arms against the tunnel walls. Then our friends (and complete strangers) coming down after us would slam into us at speed- in the pitch dark- and we would try to stay in place. Idiots.
They had some outside go karts that we made sure we got thrown off every time, too.
Too bad its gone. Damn lawyers...

And the mini Indy cars. I don't remember the specs but I want to say they were just short of Formula Fords. They had VW motors IIRC.

Those things were a blast.

How about those slide with the fiberglass sleds? Was it possible to ride those without getting a wicked strawberry down your leg?

Love that place...injuries and all...

Seriously...there is something wrong with us.

Coming out of the tube and dropping 10 feet into that water was a test of cardiac strength.

Yep, last time I was there was in 1989. Not sure when it closed.

The alpine slide should have been named "the road rash express."

Good times.

Super Speedboats. These were set up in a small pond, known by staff to be heavily infested with snakes
I wonder if that was part of the thrill...

Used to snowboard Vernon Valley / Great Gorge before it was switched to Mountain Creek. Still remember the lodge that mysteriously burned down a few years back...

Wow, lots of great memories of that place !

Didn't realize it was open until '96. Last time I was there was probably in the late '80s.

I went there a few times as a kid. I was too young to go on a lot of the rides, especially the "motorworld" ones. I remember seeing the cannonball loop, which was never open when I was there. Even at a young age, that thing looked like a bad idea to me.

The alpine slide was pretty cool though. I personally never wiped out, and you definitely got some serious speed...

I also remember riding the aqua scoot. This was where you sat on a plastic sled and rolled down a steep incline of metal assembly line rollers to be ejected out across a shallow pool. I didn't get hurt, but looking back it would have been ugly if you fell off the sled
