Good tires, but certainly not great tires.

I didn't see one exotic.

I thought Dead Man's Curve was on Sunset Blvd. Well, it is the more famous one.

The cars are not "too expensive" to haul out of there, they are not worth the expense of hauling them out of there. Even a C-student like me (such as myself) can see the grammatical slaughter in that sentence.

The VW "Thing" would have been worth hauling out.

Really?? What's a VW Thing worth after it's been dropped-off a 10 story building into dirt?

I wish there was more detail in the story. I'd be interested to know how many and kind of cars are down there.

Fellow Pelican, Chris Banning, has written a book on racing on Mulholland. There's a pretty long thread about him/his book/Mul. Last I heard he's trying to document those wrecks in the 2nd edition of his book.

A few years ago a few of us (organized by Banning) went climbing over the guardrail at Deadman's and a couple other spots along the Race Course. There were a few rusty wrecks down there. Nothing particularly special. There were two halves of 911s (one blue, one red, IIRC). Probably dismantled in some chop shop and then the unibody frames were tossed down the hillside from the edge of the road. I've got a Mustang hubcap hanging on my garage wall from that trek. Didn't find the rest of the car, though.

That VW Thing lies along a hiking trail, but I think that's somewhere below the Studio City overlook east of Laurel Cyn but west of Nichols.

If you are going to use the quote, use the original. One of Peter Egan's best.
