Bug Out Bags
 

I hired a freelancer for a few days and we got talking about stuff which included him telling me about his bug-out bag that he keeps in his car. I had never heard this term. I looked it up on the internet and you could spend days reading about all the stuff people have in their bug-out bags. I find the idea really interesting and learned a lot about preparedness or in my case the lack thereof. While I personally think there is a lot of paranoia involved in the prepper/survivalist sub culture, I did find some info useful and will now carry a few more essentials in my car from now on. I found it all fascinating.

My bug out bag is a plane ticket.

If the S hits the fan, my wife and I will likely have already been gone for a year. Things don't happen overnight.

Iff oddjobuno looks in and sees this, he might give you a compleat rundown on various B.O.B's.

He's into this type of stuff big time, (on a practical level - the guy is a real-life adventurer) and he has the means to experiment with gear to figure out what works.

OK, so what did you find useful and what are you carrying now?

I haven't done any research, and I am not prepared, but I also find it a bit interesting.

99% of people reply on their cash being able to buy what they need.

How long do you think the store shelves are going to be stocked if the power is out for several weeks ( indefinitely ) and no trucks are bringing goods?

OK, so you have your bag. Where do you think you are going and far can you get on one tank of fuel?

I used to think the survivalist types were cool. if nukes fly or zombies roam the streets, I hope I am at ground zero. Just poof and gone. No desire to see it all fall apart.

I sort of have one in the plane in case of engine failure in the middle of nowhere up here.

Just think camping in the wild, because that is about what it would be like if it happens. When they call for hurricanes or stuff like that here, we just make sure we can live without power for a week. Canned food, water, and a full tank in the truck. Of course ammo but that is just part of a hobby.

When setting my the rafters on my house I can remember thinking, if I fall from here, would I die right away, or would I lie there and suffer, I wonder how long it would take to go into shock... I know which option I would have picked on the way down, so I can see what you're saying.

My BOB is my house. If I can't make it there, I don't want to make it.

If its something like an earthquake or flooding, I think a BOB would be a great idea. But in the case of like World War III with cities getting nuked and whatnot.. Yeah, put me at ground zero.

The only bug out bag I ever had was full of lady bugs. When I opened the bag in my front yard a couple hundred bugged out.:rolleyes:

I guess I'm not really thinking about it as an end of the world thing. In the winter I have an extra pair of gloves in my car. That's about it. It wouldn't hurt to add a couple of energy bars and an extra coat and hat. Band aids, etc. that kind of stuff. It's insane what some of these guys have ready. I'm not knocking it, I just had no idea this was a "thing".

no worries. i dont have a BOB.

i have a BOB(box). i keep all my hunting gear and backpack gear in a big box. SHTF, and i am packing a hunting pack up. but i am staying put. where i live, i aint going anywhere. roads would gridlock.

i'll take my chances in my home. if i outlast anyone, then i move into the wilderness.

Ditto. In sudden EOLAWKI* scenario my home is the meet-up location for family. Go from there.

*End Of Life As We Know It

Or someone from Yugoslavia that speaks better English than I speak Croatian.
