Ran my first half marathon
Today, checked something off the bucket list...ran a 1/2 marathon. I probably should have trained more but overall, I feel good about it. I started WAY too quick for me...8:19 min/miles. We had thunderstorms for the last 9 miles with torrential ran. STarting at mile 4 I slowed down considerably with the rain. My sneakers probably gained a good 2 pounds each. But I did it, averaged exactly 10 minute miles which was my plan. Next up, full marathon, triathlon, writing a book. buying an airplane, build a car from scratch....

Nice accomplishment. Do a marathon now, just up the training and do some split training as well to find your anaerobic threshold. Interesting things happen around miles 21 to 23. Have fun, that's the most important thing. You can never train enough for a marathon.

I've done seven full marathons and three of them were in torrential rain the whole way.

Congrats...a better man than I.

Good job!
In my opinion it's about regular exercise not so much big sounding goals. Keep at it on regular bases and you will reap the benefits.! |

Congratulations! You've got quite a bucket list there, but it's doable. Good luck on checking them off.

I suspect that is what I'll do. I'll continue to do the smaller 5ks and 10ks and perhaps halfs to keep the exercise up, but after doing a marathon, I don't think the time commitment will work for me. We'll see after I do one.

After seeing a few comment about my bucket list, I dusted it off to see the complete list and update it. I think I am officially a certified nut-case... Whats on your Bucket List?

Dang it! If you lived closer, I would ask you to be on my team. Doing Ragnar for the second time in February.

For me, I suspect writing a book would be the hardest. I am a very slow reader and not a particularly good writer. I am not one of these people who can whip out a 4 page article in a day or two. I am constantly second guessing my writing. I probably should get over that as I have a number of publications, but I guess we all have our doubts. The full marathon would probably be the next mentally. I'll have to come up with a better way of dealing with my thoughts while running...and more specifically while training not making excuses. Building a car from scratch will be a challenge. So many decisions and knowing there are some things I will screw up and have to redo. I refuse to be one of those people who give up and sell a partially complete project. Knowing how many of these are available, I would be a fool to not think of this going into it and fighting against it. Triathlon - Really this depends on which one I do. I don't have an interest in the Iron Man. I suspect I could do the sprint now (1/2 mi swim, 20k-bike ride and a 5k-run). I think I will do this first but I believe the olympic is more the spirit of my bucket list. Buying an airplane will simply take some money. The bigger problem will be committing the time to make it worthwhile.

Oh, question for the runners of the group. How long after a half until I should start running again. I have to admit, I am feeling pretty sore now (due to not training enough). Happily, no pain just soreness, I was afraid my knees would be hurtin' but doing fine. I am thinking a week until I am no longer sore then get out with a 2 mile run?
