Justice is sometimes terrible and swift

I can't find a link to this but was on the local news:

A grand jury in rural Lovaca County, TX refused to indict a man for beating another man to death. It seems the 23 year old father of a 5 year old girl walked in on a 47 year old man raping his daughter and proceeded to beat him to death.

Sometimes you just gotta be judge, jury and executioner..... Justice is served.

Texas used to allow this if you found your spouse in bed with someone else...

No brainer, but just think of what the poor guy would have to go through if he lived in California.

Lou Rawls?

actually, all those dudes contributed to this social contract theory - unfortunately for them, biology & anthropology have shown it not to be true

science kills off philosophy bit by bit

to the specific instance: I call it a mercy killing, because death for that perp would be better than having me in the father's place

Good riddance. He should get an award for saving the taxpayers thousands.

This is a perfect example of jury nullification. The jury is the last say in the law, not the judge.
Had the grand jury voted an indictment, the prosecutor would have been hanged. The sheriff did what he had to do, walk away.

yup, no brainer...but the bad side of me would have tortured him for several hours prior to his slow death...there are many ways a person can experience pain. History has taught us well...

Anthropology is a science?

"I’d be interested to read a dissenting voice on this."

No place in the article did it say it was confirmed that the girl had been assaulted. That's pretty important information. Maybe the jury had it. I would have to know that the guy's story held water before I let him go.

Local story around here.

IIRC, they were at a farm.

The perp was a guest.

Someone told the father that the perp took the little girl.

Father went looking for her and caught the guy in the act.

There were witnesses.

EDIT: Better article that explains more.

Give the dad a medal, and move on. No crime committed at all. He did the world a favor.

rusnak 09-03-2013 03:49 PM
