Network printers/ipad
Has anyone used any of the print servers to get their iPads to print to printers attached to the network? We have several here but none are supported by iOS so we were looking at a product like this:
xPrint server Any other solutions out there? |

When our charting software works on them we will look into it. Right now we are stuck on IE or iOS and the iPads work much better to haul around to chart on, especially when it is a touch based interface made for a kiosk originally.

We've just bought AirPrint compatible printers to get around it when necessary (not too often), but this seems like it'd be pretty workable since it just takes AirPrint and translates it to a network printer.
One overlooked thing about Win8RT is that it works pretty well with a lot of printers. Not sure why Apple did what they did other than it works perfectly with the compatible printers, vs. hit and miss. |
Apple did what they did because Apple can.
We have a few dozen printers here on campus and it seems silly to buy another just to get the iPads to print. All but a few here are enterprise class so you would have thought Apple would have supported one of them. |
We use HP units here at work with JetDirect cards... some are ancient
For home use, our new HP all-in-one device supports printing from iDevices |
We have an older Brother all in one, there's a Brother app that allows printing from iPad and iPhone. Not ideal but it works.

BUT - you don't have print quality control. I.e. you can't scale, fit to page, etc... It works, but it's basic. |
Good to know. They don't always tell you that stuff on the page.

Funny looking at a bunch of solutions today. HP's have this new capability with ePrint, you can get Airprint capable printers, or use an app like Breezy for home. You can also do this if you have a Mac that is on the network and connected to the printer, share it out and then use iCloud to print from the iDevice to the Mac, the. Printer.
For me none of the solutions are a fit for me, but I know my wife needs a new Printer ;) I will make sure it has Airprint and ePrint. One note about Airprint, if your wireless network/AP's don't support multicast you're hooped |
running Collobos software "FingerPrint", which has been renamed Presto now, and its working for me.
