?? about Body Champ magnetic resistance recumbent bike
Greetings all. I have a Body Champ BRB5890 recumbent bike that we purchased in May of this year. I am having a few problems with it and cannot seem to find an online link to the manufacturer. Can anyone help with that or possibly answer the questions posed in my online review at Amazon?
My online Amazon review:
We purchased the Body Champ BRB5890 a few weeks ago. Now after some amount of usage, I have found the quietness to be superb. It allows us to carry on a conversation or watch television while in use. I also found the assembly instructions very well written. However, understanding the use of the display and computer settings is very confusing with the given text. Someone needs to actually use the thing while trying to understand what is being written. I would much rather have too much verbiage that I can choose to accept or reject as opposed to so little confusing explanation that it is next to impossible to understand. I also have a problem with a statement in some of the explanations that says, "Once a value of a function countdowns to 0, a beeping sound will indicate this and stop the computer program automatically. Press START to continue the workout to reach the other unfinished workout functions." The problem is two-fold; one I usually use the manual setting and go as long as I can with the computer counting up instead of down. When I finish or reach my limit, I stop and get off the bike. At that point it begins beeping and will not stop unless I unplug the darn thing. Secondly, it displays an E-1 while beeping, but nowhere in the manual is there an explanation of what that means. (Very poor technical writing here!) This is very irritating to have to unplug the machine each time I finish a workout. Something else that needs to be fixed on this machine is the display. It is extremely difficult to see without some type of back-lighting. Shining lights on it from above or below or the side simply causes a glare on the screen. A simple backlight would have been very inexpensive to add and would have greatly enhanced the ability of the user to see what is going on during his or her workout. If I had it to do over again, I would likely shop around a bit more and choose a machine that has better written instructions for use and that has reset buttons so one does not have to power down by unplugging it to eliminate annoying beeping sounds.
We are now ~6 months into ownership of this product and I have become increasingly less satisfied with it. My biggest complaint is still the electronic interface. I still have not been able to figure out how to reset that annoying E-1 code without getting off the bike, unplugging it then restarting my workout. That causes interruptions in an aerobic workout which I despise. It also causes the timer to reset to zero and I have to recall at what point the interruption came so I can get the workout time I set as my goal that day. I also have not been able to find any online source to contact the manufacturer to find out how to reset the E-1 error code. In addition to the E-1 coming up at the beginning of a workout, it now sometimes appears in the middle of a workout without reason. I have also noted if I am running my difficulty levels up and down in manual mode, it will throw the E-1 code when going from level 5 to level 6 or above. That irritates the crap out of me as I again have to get off the bike, unplug it then start my workout all over again. Just today (11/01/13) during my morning workout, I discovered I can go from level 4 to level 6 without the E-1 code, but something needs to be done to resolve this annoying characteristic in the Body Champ 5890. Unless someone can tell me how to correct the E-1 problems or the company can send a new control panel that fixes the problem, I am going to say to any other potential buyers, "stay away from this machine. You will not like the poorly written instruction for use or having to get off and back on to reset error codes during a workout."
