One of my wife's good friends is a PhD retired professor married to ENT surgeon. She lives in South Carolina now but grew up in Duncan Oklahoma.

When she calls and talks to my wife the southern girl accent gets thicker and thicker the longer the conversation gets. One day se called our house and left a message but she hit the wrong redial and she thought she was leaving a message for the contractor on their house. I did not recognize her voice. She was in professional mode. 100% business and no sign of accent.

Like many people her accent fits the situation.

Never thought I'd say this, but I agree with Dari.

Pretty sad and arrogant to look down on or think someone is "uneducated" because of their dialect or accent.

that's funny. you guys look down on everyone not just like yourself. you look down on people because of the region they're from, the cars they drive, the places they shop, the way they vote, etc., etc., etc. why stop at their dialect/accent?
