Stupid question about renaming files in Win 7...need help
 
Guys:

Say I have a need to rename a file and its related type in Windows 7 from something like test.NC to test.CNC. How do I make this happen where I can rename the file extension like you used to be able to do in MS-DOS? If I right click my file, hit rename, and enter test.CNC I end up with a file called test.CNC.NC which obviously is not what I want.

I need to change the extension.

Go to control panel, open folder option, and the view tab. Make sure the checkmark is removed from the hide extensions for known file types.

I believe that should do it for you.

Yes, I can rename my files like you did, but I always set my view options to allow me to view file extensions as soon as I get a new Windows box.

One of the first things I change on a new computer. Then I also show hidden files. Thankfully I no longer have to kill the paperclip.
