Couple of Interesting Cars in the Middle of Nowhere

Was out on the backroads on the motorcycle yesterday and spotted these two (well 3) cars at a small car repair shop west of Fulton, MO. The mid year 911 had plates that expired in 2010. It's interesting in that it has cloth insert seats and the euro bumpers, but no side markers. The M3 has current plates.

Nobody's gonna believe this but a couple years ago I went into a local interior resto shop that specializes in rag-top classics (like Deusenbergs, Cadillacs, etc.).

Guy says, you're into Porsches? Uh, maybe. Follow me he says.

So he takes me to the back of the shop and whips off a canvas cover underneath of which was a complete, dusty Spyder 550. Then he pulls another cover off an engine stand and there was a spare engine for it!

No pics of course. So don't believe me if you want.

Reminds me of a time, circa 1996 or so and came upon an indepenent repair / used car lot. The silver M3 was priced for $4k.... hmmm, OK I'm thinking. The 'head' tech tells me it was just serviced by him and it fly's. Soooo, he continues and tells me its a turbo. WTF? I had to see that. Lifts the hood and no fricken' turbo but this bloody bonehead 'head tech' is pointing at the intake plenum. Car was a POS anyhow, told him he was an idiot and left. LAM

BTW: Nice scoot in the pic!

I believe you - wanna know why? I have the same story from approx. 1988/89 as a kid. The shop was Coachcraft 25 miles from Charlotte, NC. I still can't believe I don't have photos of it. The owner found the car in Canada half buried in dirt. At the time I saw it, restoration was half complete. They had to fabricate a hood for it. I would give my left nut to know where that car is now.

Might not be a Euro... 74's had that rear bumper.

Side marker lights did not appear until later.

...it does have Euro taillights, but a lot of US cars do.

Didn't get any info on it. And I can't remember the name of the shop-I do have the card somewhere, though. I know the shop had an arrangement with the local school (Petoskey Schools, I think) to have kids come in and learn the craft for school credit which is how I learned aobut it.

Anyways, the guy said, Now is this weird or what? Way up here in the middle of nowhere and here is one of the rarest, most highly coveted cars in the whole world-and a spare engine boot.

On the off chance I asked what the owner was gonna do with it (as in sell it maybe? and for how much).

The guy just chuckled...

I swear the top of the windscreen was less than 30 inches from the floor. I guess the shop was going to fab up a new tonneau cover and a matching cover for the spare engine years ago but the owner had other projects he wanted done and the car has just been sitting there for years. It may Have been at Stewart's Restoration's old location.

Another good way to tell is HVAC panel. A euro panel will have symbols and no english except for, I believe, the word "fan."

Hey Rot, thanks for the info.

For all, it's a customer's car and not for sale. Maybe someone on here....
