more ads

i hate that someone is tracking where i go and what i do on the computer, and i am surprised wayne has allowed it on his site. its starting to look like a advertising whore. how long before we have at watch a comercial like on you tube before we get to read a thread?
anyway, i clicked on the "X" at the ad hoping it might stop. it came up with this:

We'll do our best to show you more relevant ads in the future.
Help us show you better ads by updating your ads settings.

oh gollie gee! let me help you show me more ads! OH, let me tell you more about myself, please let me tell you. would you like to know how much i make? where i live? how about what the turd looked like that i dropped off this morning? tell ya what, i will send that one to ya.

it did take me to someplace to opt out of the cookie tracker. so now i guess i will just be surprised at the ads i get. after all, i bought a gooseneck hitch already, why do i need to see more ads about goose neck trailor hitches, im not going to buy another one.

hey, nothing else to look at on pelican so i might as well go on a rant

Purge your cookies and history, put private browsing on, install Adblock and little snitch, block all non-native sites and disable JS. Live reasonably happy.

really?

red-beard 09-17-2013 04:58 AM

Yeah, you can get a Porsche mu-mu, cleaning supplies and parts, one stop shopping!

asphaltgambler 09-17-2013 05:00 AM

That won't do it completely. You must then go to Windows Explorer>C:>Users> select your profile folder

In the address bar enter "\" after your user folder to show the hidden files Appdata\local temp folder. Delete the contents of that folder as well

It is Wayne's website so the way I see it is he can do what he wants with it.
If you folks don't like the ads take the necessary precautions as suggested.
In the meantime I enjoy this forum and the service Pelican Parts provides....

There's a very fine line between being the customer and being the product.

We could all demand a refund of our annual subscription fees ..... ;)

The person tracking you... is you.
Through the lax security parameters of your computer, lack of security restrictions, use of software that does not restrict third-party content, etc, you have given your information freely to the interwebs.

Wayne does not track you.
Wayne provides a forum that is free to you, paid for in part by the revenue generated by the advertising.

You may want to start a campaign to move all access to paid members only, in exchange for eliminating all advertising. That should be well received by all.

Whoa girls, it's ok. I didn't say there was anything bad about the Walmart, I shop there every week. Do you guys really not see it? The new FB page, the ads, parts being stupid cheap with free shipping, selling Porsche, VW, BMW, Mercedes, Volvo, mini, Saab, Audi parts? Guys don't see that?

Examble of not a Walmart like place: Zims, Paragon, Rennbay etc...

I use FireFox, AdBlock Plus, and NoScript. I do not see a single ad.

As an added bonus, you can use AdBlock Plus to block those annoying sig pictures on other forums.

I think its great seeing all the faux pop-ups of good looking 'woman in my area wanting to meet me'. Same ad's after two years... flattered LOL

Stop using IE. Start using Firefox. It's free. And easy.
