there are only two ways to secure that door. Nail or screw through the jam and threshold. nail throw the door near the edge into the jamb. If you can spot nail holes in the surface of the door, then its nailed through into the jamb. Neither way, its a PITA. Patch and paint is your friend.

How about some type of a tent or structure right outside and a propane heater?

to answer some of the questions.

this is alaska.
it is ****ing cold.
i don't have a garage.
every year some other riders and i rent heated storage locker.
this year i bought a new bike. i'm going to put it in the locker while i do a semi restoration on the BMW.

turns out the neighbor used to do window and door installation. pretty near worse case pain in the ass scenario. had to remove the glass and dig out twenty screws from the frame before we could pop out the door. will have to go through the whole process again next spring.

his wife came over to see what we were doing. she rolled her eyes and left without saying anything.

A big red key, is the key to opening that door.

That photo is the photo to use on Wikipedia for the definition of SINGLE man.
You need a pirate sign of Skull & crossbones with the phrase "Prepare to surrender your booty" :D

Totally. . . In the spring use a sawzall and install a new unit with two operating doors.

HHI944 09-18-2013 05:21 PM

My sawzall doesn't get used often, but when it does, people know to get the hell out of my way......

Baz 09-18-2013 07:31 PM

What's a sawzall......says my chainsaw. :)

have been seeing this gal for a couple months. she's still pretending my jokes are funny and that she likes my friends. she has been strangely silent on this.

Looks to me like you are all set up for a good winter project . No frozen fingers while trying to wrench on the bike:-). Do folks there heat their garages ?

Probably a good thing that your friend is keeping her thoughts to herself.

Cheers Richard.

I think it's obvious that you're a guy that knows what he's doing. She may have been strangely silent so far, but eventually you'll get a big smile and a kiss when she realizes you've left her plenty of room to get to the sink and the stove.

And to the wood stove. No woman likes stuff in her way when she needs to put some more wood in.

If you managed to get it out, putting hinges on it would be a logical next step. It doesn't have to operate perfectly, that is to say it can be tight. It just has to open when you need it to.

Otherwise figure out a way to secure it without having to pull the glass.

Or not.

She is smart enough to realize she will be a former girlfriend if she said much about disapproving of a bike in the house.

One of the many great Jeff Foxworth lines is "You might be a redneck if you have ever heard the phrase honey could you move the transmission, I need to take a bath"

I remember my single days. I could hang a Porsche poster right in the living room. Now that same poster is relegated to the garage.

All women look at their boyfriends and plan how they will change them.
They never give up on that thought, but some eventually decide it would be too much work and the end result would not be worth the effort.

She prolly on the fence right now .... ;)

RWebb 09-19-2013 11:24 AM

if you like her, be smart & bring it up yourself... "honey, that bike in my house... it doesn't bother you does it?"

she won't come out and say yes directly so you'll have room to do what you want to do anyway

if she comes close to yes, it bothers me then promise her some sort of compromise "it's just for a few days" will work at least twice per lifetime

Wow, you are a nice guy. I would have said, " honey after you are done with the dishes, clean the rims will ya and I will let you sleep inside tonight"

What a romantic.

My brother gave my mom a baseball glove for Christmas once.
